Mr.Clean's magic eraser 'instructions'?
« on: 5 Jul 2007, 06:39 pm »
Hey vinyl friends- I've have been considering the purchase of a stylus cleaner, and read about the 'magic eraser', so.... I secured a package and though I've read a couple of the 'instructions' as related in AC. I am still uncertain as to how 'best' to use the 'magic eraser' to clean without damaging my stylus. The 'magic eraser' is after all a rather dry sponge, my understanding is cut a wedge, using the white surface, place on a coin and then on the platter, use the cuing to 'drop' the stylus on this surface, (parallel cut to the surface of the platter?) several times and brush the stylus with stylus brush?

Do I have it right? other considerations? how often is a new wedge needed? any other products useful?

                         thanks for your help,  len

Here's a link to the best description I've seen of the Magic Eraser Stylus Cleaner.  Got this over on Audiogon.  I can't vouch for it personally, but I plan on trying it out myself.  Good luck!

I just cut off a piece around 2" by 2" and I just gently lower the stylus into it after each LP.

I also use LP#9 every 1-2 weeks.

Thanks for the response. I believe I have an understanding of how to approach 'this' process of cleaning a stylus. In my case a blue point special evo3, reputedly very fragile, though I'm ready to try.

Here's another thread on some alternatives. I still use the Snapper Hand on mine to good effect=5 for a buck off of Ebay...
