The picture of the filler cap is mighty impressive I think, but the cam can obviously do better!...

   Interesting, a guy in Norway started this 4th of July thread with photos of American cars parading down the street of Norway!

   Well, I was going to post these in the "Picture of the Day" but since there is already a "4th July" thread here I think these will be more apopriate here....

  So, here is how New Yorkers celerbrated the 4th of July here in NYC.... with the largest firework show in North America. The Macy's 2007 4th of July Firework show....

   I'm lucky that my boss got a studio in a building in Long Island City with a very nice view of Manhattan. This year he threw a party for his friends and I was there too. It was nice , I even did cooking for the main dish that night.... a big pot of shrimp Thai green curry

    Well, at least you have 2 hours to do it per year.

    Here in New York, firework is illegal  Not a bad thing especially living in the City where everyone live in a very close proximity. You know I don't want my next door neighbor burn down my apartment with their firework   

   Anyway, those are very nice American cars, very collectible here in the US.  BTW... are they expensive there in Norway?

Well, the cars that are in the Nordic countries tend to be in better shape than in America, as a base level.
That is very few wrecks exist here, most car have been fixed, and is in use.

So, often cars are shipped to America from say Sweden and Germany that has many highly original cars.
Price wise I'd say that its about the same.
However the price hike that was in the US some years ago on classic models are in part being followed here to now.

But some cars are cheaper here, and others are cheaper in the states. So the trends of what is popular and not is not the same on the two "halves" of the globe if you will.

The Ford Mustang has been, and is still very expensive outside of the US.
The Corvette tends to not be so highly priced in the Nordic Countries, it's to many of them here!
Say a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with a 428 is a very rare car over here.
But there are more coming over this summer I believe. I think the Mustang is about to be popular here!

The last 2-3 years the import has been made more easy to and the classics are now tax exempt here so America is draining in a insane tempo for the cars that are in demand. Anything older than 1977.

It's very popular to restore over here, and a lot of specialist parts for classics are made in Sweden and Finland. Some of the very best experts are located in Finland as for the historic side of things go, stuff such as that. I've been interested in American classic cars since 1985/86 until today. That makes me a novice in the game, by the way. My Grandfather restored a 52 Plymouth I remember, awesome car that!

Here's something you don't see everyday.    11 DeTomaso Pantera's parked alongside each other. My neighbour is a member of the Pantera Club of Ontario. They have an annual meet. These pics are from last years meet.





Here's my neighbour with his fully ground up restored GTS model.He did all the work himself. It's a '73 I believe, with factory flares and graphics. It's been totally rebuilt. The motor is bored and stroked to (IIRRC) 378 C.I , and converted to throttle body fuel injection. The ZF transaxle had been fully rebuilt, as well as all the suspension and running gear. He cast his own durometer polyurethane suspension bushings. Custom coilover suspension. Custom built a hydraulic clutch master cylinder, and installed a hydraulic throwout bearing. All this car is waiting for is fresh paint. The interior is all new leather. carpet, and headliner, rebuilt gauges as well.  Practically every nut and bolt on this car has been changed to stainless steel, cross drilled and safetywired. Wheels are 3 piece Campagnolo units, fully restored. The exhaust is stock, but has been ceramic coated. The mirrors are Corvette C5, and the perches are custom cast aluminum pieces he designed and built. I've driven this car, and it goes like stink.

Hey Imperial, since you are into American Street Rods, I thought you'd get a kick out of this.

I live about 40 miles outside of St Louis in a small town called Pacific, Missouri. Years ago I used to belong to a local Car Club called Tri-County Early Iron. We used to host and judge a car show at our city park back in the 80's and 90's. In recent years the guys worked out with the city Fathers to hold the event in downtown Pacific. Over the past five or six years, the event (now called Pacific Days and Car Cruise) had grown exponentially. This year there were about 600 entrants that covered about 12 square city blocks. It's one of the few car cruises where the entire downtown of a city is shut down for a car show. Guessing, over the entire day there were probably 10 to 15 thousand people wandering the streets of downtown Pacific.

Here are some pics of the event that happened yesterday. All of my shots were at or after dusk so some might be a little dark or have some movement blurring or shadows. We'd have gone up there during the day but it was just too darned hot and humid (about 95 deg at 75% rh ........I melt at those temps).

A buddy of mine, Dale Nowack has been racing 56 Ford's for years now. A couple of years ago he crashed his race car doing about 150mph. It's taken him a couple of years to 'come back' but later this month he'll be taking "Mr Bo Jangles II" on here maiden voyage down that 1/4 mile stretch.

I remembered taking pictures of a fireworks in Las Vegas, Nevada and I think I used a tripod with a shutter speed of 20seconds or longer.

Oh my!
The town I grew up in was Mustang city! Every summer 3 guys that owned 500KR's used to sit and
drink coffee in town, then they would drive home, rumble home really...
And then there was the local car museum... there was a Lamborghini 5000LPS there.
They had to fire up the engines at least once a week. You have to do this or the engine goes bad.
So they would drive maniac on the small back roads... and they would stop at a shop in my town...
rev the engine and drive off in a cloud of smoke! (they were after some years banned from taking the car out of the museum... go figure... they could never catch the beastly thing...!) 
Cannonball my ass! This was the real deal!!! Ah! I can still remember those times! YEHAA!!!

These were all hand held. I looked up the shooting info on the fireworks and this is what it said....

Shutter Speed - 1/4
Aperture Value - 5.6
Exposure Compensation - (-1)
ISO - 100
Focal Length - 28mm

I can't claim it's anything I did. I owe all the success to my new Canon 30d and decent glass. This, by far, is a best camera I've ever owned. It does a great job in low light. Most of the shots above were done either after dusk or in the dead of night.

The rules of cameras are just like audio, you get what you pay for. I have to say, in cameras I'm completely sold on the digital format. You get instant feedback on your shot via the viewing screen then all you have to do is make some minor adjustments and you can make some pretty darned nice shots.

You know after one week of my new Fuji F31 cam... I'm already checking out the possibility of
getting a better camera... It's terrible! The upgrade itch hit me like a bomb!
I took one look at the photo's you posted Scott F, and I knew those were not made by a compact cam...
I've set my eyes on the Nikon D200, but a Canon 30D is definitely an option.
It will have to wait, and the Fuji is quite simply fantastic, for a compact, I will learn to use it...
Digital cameras are new to me, but I'm bit HARD by the photo bug here!!!

Again... Those were nice photos Scott F! I would not expect any better if I opened up the latest issue of Hotrod magazine!
Maybe it's the summer time buzz I don't know ...
But I wake up every morning these days with a grin on my face!!!

I think whatever stupid laws that are on the books preventing some of these cars from being on the road should be repealed.  Life would be so much more interesting if wicked cool hot rods could be seen alongside the drab everyday cars on the road.  There's only one hot road I've ever seen in town and you only see the guy driving it once in a blue moon.  It seems a shame that these things are most likely towed from show to show or spend their lives in garages being polished.  Of course, then that would mean having the retarded license plates.  Ugh.  Can't win..

When it comes to classic cars, we're pretty lucky. My property backs up against one of the original sections of the historic Route 66. In turn seeing groups of classic cars either just cruising or out on road rallies is pretty common. Granted, nobody drives there cars in bad weather or during the winter but the St Louis area has a higher than average share of hot rods running the streets than I've seen in other 'big' cities.

I don't know if it would be impossible, but I'd sure like to see Route 66 revived.

Obviously certain sections would have to be new - maybe most, for all I know.

I think it was a big mistake not to have realized the historic importance of that whole era, but maybe it is totally and finally past by now.

I just kind of miss the hot rods, the juke boxes, the outrageous restaurant themes, the neon.

Where it used to be a functional highway - a quick way to get across the the country, now the interstates serve that purpose. Route 66 could be the destination; one that you would slowly make your way down (so you didn't use too much gas!).
