I take it you mean the Ultra 4A ? I purchased one from Lloyd and find it to be a fine preamp in its stock configuration ! It also responds very well to upgrades. I'm a fiddler by nature so it has went through a large tranformation. I think the preamp is a absolute great design and works well, dead silent and the phono section is awesome. I'm comparing it to a long standing vintage king the Scott 130 which was in great working I rebuilt it just about completely.

Ultra 6 not Ultra 4 or Octal 6

Mapletree Audio Design has expanded the range of kits and assembled
components offered. The Phono 5 phono preamp is now combined with a
line stage as the Ultra 6 to offer additional flexibility at no increase
in cost.

Just an invitation to check out the photos, specs and schematic of the
new Mapletree Audio Design Ultra 6 phono/line preamp. It combines the
best of the aclaimed Octal 6 line preamp with the sonic excellence of
the Phono 5 phono preamp--all on one chassis plus power supply.

I purchased one used on Audiogon...

Thanks for any info.

I think he settled on Ultra 4A for the latest name unless I'm confused. I just bought it last week !

Just a note on the MAD Ultra preamps. The Ultra 6 combined the Phono 5 ciruitry with a line stage. The current Ultra 4A is a different circuit (particularly the phono section) but does use a similar separate power supply. The Ultra 6 also used a larger chassis than the Ultra 4A. As with all progress, the Ultra 4A represents an improvement over the Ultra 6 in some areas--particularly in signal-to-noise ratio and RIAA eq accuracy. By the way, the number designation of the MAD products indicates the number of tubes used, not the model progression. I can supply schematics (and users manuals) for most discontinued MAD products.
