Don't forget the BCD-1 has a break-in period of between 20-50 hours.
 It gets better!

Hi Glenee,

Believe it or not we have never caught up to the back orders since we introduced the CD Player last summer. It has been unbelievable!  Any new order is about 2 weeks.

good afternoon mr. tanner,

after procastinating a few months, i've decided to take the plunge and just ordered the bcd-1.
for the last 8 years i've been living with an adcom 750. this is where my question comes in.

the adcom didn't have any digital out capabilities but it did have a coaxial input so another digital product could take advantage of the adcom's dac.

why doesn't bryston include a digital in facility on their bcd-1?

Welcome to Bryston ED,

It’s a very good question and one not generally understood.

In an ‘all in one’ CD Player the big advantage is that you know exactly what digital BitStream is coming off the Drive. Knowing this you can precisely synchronize the ‘DRIVE’ to the ‘DAC’ through a ‘MASTER CLOCK’.  This reduces the JITTER to extremely low levels. (By the way we have found that the closer the DAC is to the CLOCK the better)

With an outboard DAC you do not know what digital BitStream your dealing with so you have to ‘RECLOCK’ and ‘RESAMPLE’ the digital input to allow the DAC to ‘Clock’ to the incoming signal. Again your trying to reduce Jitter to a very low level.

If we were to have a Digital Input on the Bryston CD Player we would have to use different circuitry to allow for the reclocking and resampling of the incoming bitstream.

Hope this helps.

James

Sorry to keep bumping this thread, but after living with the BCD-1 for two weeks I just had to express my enthusiasm and congratulate James and the team at Bryston for stepping out on a limb and producing one of the best sources I’ve ever had in my system or remember hearing after 40 plus years in this hobby.
Job well done.

Robert

Well got me one of these Bad Boys on the way ordered today.  :thumb:Don't know how long it will take. 17" in Black to match the rest of my equipment, and all the reviews I have read says the 17" Black one sounds slightly better than all the other sizes and the Silver ones. aa Did I mention that I have a lot of patience, the reason I have so many is caused I haven't used very many yet. :icon_twisted:
WTF is my CDP ? I'm ready now where is it ?

P.S. Hi James

Reclocking and resampling is what you have to do with the BDA-1, correct?  Does the BDA-1 buffer the incoming data at all?
Thanks

Hi Rich,

Correct - the BDA1 has a 64-sample FIFO before re-sampling.

The TAS reviewer said that he tweaked out more performance from the BCD-1 using isolation cones. Has any forum member used cones and what has your experience been?  I've been using different powercords and interconnects with my BCD-1 and it is such a revealing piece that I hear significant/important sonic differences with each change. I imagine cones would make a difference.

Hi Jack,

I was informed on Friday that the Absolute Sound (TAS) in an upcoming issue is going to tests a number of different outboard DAC's and they are using the Bryston CD Player as their reference player for the tests due to its neutrality and ability to reveal differences.

A reviewer's reference tool is a fantastic endorsement of the BCD-1! Congratulations!  :thumb:

I use a Gingko Audio (gingkoaudio.com) Cloud 10 isolation platform under mine.  Sometimes good cones work better.  On my Marantz DV9600 universal player cones seem to work best.

Hi All,

This is an interesting topic.

What do the manufactureres of these types of products claim they do?
For instance how does an Isolation Platform solution differ from a Cone setup?  Is it energy storage and dissipation (platform) vs energy drain to a larger mass (cone)?

It kind of reminds me of turntable days when you had some manufactures extolling the benefits of large mass turntables while others supported sprung suspension low mass tables.

Hi,

I would not say it is something we generally think about other than making sure that components are tight and secure (structural integrity) in power amps preamps etc. With the CD Player the disc is lifted from the tray and the player 'locks' the disc in place when it is being rotated so the laser can read it properly and with minimal error. There is no added suspension system as such to isolate other than the built in laser drive mechanism that the drive manufacture supplies.

I know there are those that feel you have two types of vibrational issues with audio equipment.  Mechanical and Acoustic and each one should can be dealt with in different ways.
