Mine's working fine and found the skin for the Slimserver I have worked so long on (album art, etc.)... and had the latest OS on it already (although I went ahead and installed the Nokia tablet Update Wizard).  However, when I go to Yahoo it tells me to find a newer browser and gives me a generic screen showing Yahoo Services, but it's not the home page or any content.  Does anyone have or know of a better browser plug-in than the one called "browser default plug-in?"

I tried to use the newer version AOL Webmail on it and got some sort of ActiveX error - no go, so if anyone has any idea on that too?  Tom

Mine also has the latest OS.  I've not tried to go to the main Yahoo index page, but I've gone directly to My.Yahoo.com and it works fine...

By the way, I take it that you have to use a fixed IP address with your slimserver.  Any tips on how to set up a fixed IP network?  I have a computer, two SBs, a Replay, and an Insteon device on my network.  I see that I can assign each of these devices a fixed address using my router's web page.  Do I then have to do anything within the device?  For instance, do I have to somewhere in networking set the IP address to a fixed address in the computer/SB/Replay?  Or when I restart the device, will the router automatically set the IP address to what I've configured it to be set using the router's web page?

You don't have to have a fixed IP address for any of them.  The only one where it can make things a bit more handy is if you would set a fixed IP for the PC that runs the Slim Server - the others don't matter. 

To set up fixed IP:

First you have to find out your current information:

Hit START button

Select RUN

In the box, type COMMAND (this gets you to a DOS command prompt)

At the DOS command propmpt type " IPCONFIG /ALL" (this will give you all the info you need about your network connection)  Use this display to copy down your current IP address, your default gateway IP address, subnet mask, and DNS server IP addresses - you'll need them later.

When you're all done, type EXIT at the command prompt and the DOS session will close.

Now, to actually set the static IP address:

Select your network

Hit Properties Button

Select TCP/IP

Hit Properties Button

On the General Tab, select the radio button for "use the following IP address" instead of the "obtain IP automatically"

Type in the static IP you want (I usually use 192.168.1.201 - all my others are auto from 192.168.1.101 through 199 - 200+ is for static IPs)  You can use anything from 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.255.  By defualt, most home routers will start dishing out IPs starting at 192.168.1.100.

Type in the subnet mask (255.255.255.0 - 99.999999% of the time)

Type in default gateway (With an internal router, it should be 192.168.1.1)

Type in the DNS Server IPs (from first step)  This is requried and becomes live when you request a static IP though it's in the section below in the same dialog box.

Hit OK.

You may need to reboot.

If this doesn't work for some reason, you can redo these steps but just go back and hit the "obtain IP automatically" radio button and say OK.  That should undo everything you've done.

Thanks, Bryan.   I think my old router used some different ranges, but I think the brand-new router uses exactly the ranges you're discussing.  I'll set this up sometime this week.

OK.  Almost all routers for home use use 192.168.1.1 for the INTERNAL router address and the range I described for other 'in the house' network IP's.  Now, the external router IP will be whatever your ISP gives you and can change at any time.

Actually all routers will use whatever range of addresses you tell them to.  There's a couple blocks of addresses set aside for private network use only (i.e. you'll never see them in use for an address on the internet):

10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

Most routers come configured to use 192.168 addresses, but I've seen a few that default to the 10.0 space.

As to needing a fixed address, many (if not most) modern routers will allow you to set a fixed IP address for any device that connects and requests an address via DHCP.  All you need to know is the device's MAC address which will be a series of 6 pairs of digits separated by colons (e.g. XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX).  All networking devices will have a MAC address that uniquely (in theory - it's possible to get a dupe amongst different vendors, but it's very unlikely) identifies the networking hardware.  What this means is that if you use DHCP on your computers to ask the router for an IP address, you can tell the router to always respond with the same address.  I prefer this method as opposed to fixing the addresses on the computer side (as described above) but in reality it doesn't matter that much how you accomplish it.  I just like having the configuration for this in one spot (the router) instead of at each networking device and most devices come pre-configured for DHCP anyway, so it's less work!

Now that I have most of my artwork loaded, I noticed that when I select an artist and show all their albums, that the "play all songs" icon is the default (blank) folder for the 770 skin.

Is there a way to associate one of the already loaded covers or a different jpeg with that folder so that I don't have to look at the default or blank icon?

I just spent the last week trying to get artwork for over 2000 cd's and I frankly don't want to see default or blank icons at this point.

I have the same question.

Also, my new D-Link router allows me to reserve an IP address for any device on the network.  So, all I had to do was select my server from a drop-down list and hit "save" and now the router will assign the server the same IP address each time.

I'm not sure if I'm seeing what you're seeing (I'm a bit vague what screen you're looking at).  Can you be more explicit as to what screen you're on, or if possible take a quick pic to show exactly what you're seeing?

the now playing page (that has the digital volume fwd/rev controls, etc.)



and that you'd like it to show when selecting an artist (i.e show all Beck albums on his artist page instead of a list of his albums with simply -> (play) and + (add to playlist) icons?



The same is true for me.  It's how the skin was first developed. 

BTW, check out what Ben is doing with V7 and his skin (due in 6 months or less)

If you take the image below and change it to show all the albums vs. text, the "All Songs" is the default "blank" icon and not associated with any artwork.

I was checking to see if I missed a setting where I could associate some artwork for the "All Songs" selection.

Based on your comments, I guess that is how it is supposed to work.

When I look at this page, there are no album covers, although when I click on a blank icon, the underlying window has the correct album cover.  Also, when I click on the note icon, I get info for the album, but not the title, artist, or genre.  Is there any way to fix this?

Well, I see I get the information when I click on the Note icon for some albums but not others.  However, I get no information when I click the artwork icon.  They are all blank (with question marks), but if I select one of them, I get the artwork on the next page (for those that have artwork, anyway).

How are you storing your artwork?  Embedded or using cover.jpg in each directory?  I'm using the latter and it seems to be working correctly for me.

So I am having a tough time getting my N800 going.  I keep getting "could not connect to remote server" error.  I am no IT wizard so if someone could list off some settings I could have wrong that would be wonderful.
