My JVC RX-D201S blew up
« on: 25 Jun 2007, 07:09 pm »
I had just listened to 1 CD, and was starting to put in a new one.  The unit started to hum loudly.  I reached for the remote to turn it off, and either right before or just as I pressed the power off, there was a really loud bang and then smoke poored out of the unit.  I had the unit for about 1.75 years.
It is under warranty, but I have misplaced the receipt.  I think I will check with either Fry's or the Credit Card company to see if I can prove proof of purchase.
Although, I am not to sure I want another one now.  Who wants equipment that is apt to blow up again?

JVC RX-D series have always had reputation for "blowing up."  The problem is the unit gets really hot and can overheat.  Did you have plenty of ventilation?

When I was buying a receiver, I was choosing between JVC and Panny, and my Panny SA-XR55 is still doing a fantastic job!

There was plenty of air space on all sides.

Well, I got my JVC repaired under warranty for free.
It is back now and working good.
The parts list said they replaced
1 FET
1 CAP
I took it in for repair on the last day of the warranty.

However, the following day my Panasonic DVD player stopped working.  What luck!
