Today ONLY Nokia 770 for $129.99

Nokia 770 works GREAT as a graphical remote for SlimServer and all your SqueezeBoxes.

The Nokia 770 skin is built right into SlimServer 6.5.0 and later.

This is a great deal!

That is a great deal.  It's $150 cheaper than other places.

Thanks Wayne.

Pretty sick price for a cool toy.

This would be much better than my Dell Axiom.

Has anybody used Woot before?  I have never heard of this site...

I never heard of it either.  I registered, placed the order via Paypal, and got a note saying it should ship within 5 business days.  We'll see about status and tracking soon enough.

I bought one, as it's darn hard to read the SB sometimes.  Now, I just need a wireless connection in the house!  Anyone recommend a wireless router/access point (most of my gear is wired)?

Oh yeah, also how do I download album art if I'm using FLAC and EAC?

Oh yeah II -- how does one set up this to access the slimserver yet not be the slimserver?  Or do you somehow configure it as the slimserver, yet map the songs to a different computer?

I think you just have to give your real slimserver a hard IP address and then point the browser of the 770 to that.

Unlike my Telcanto/Dell Axiom setup, I believe you are simply using the Nokia 770 as a web browser to the Slimerver machine or you can load in the Nokia 770 skin for the Slimserver.

As such, you would simply punch in the URL on your Nokia 770 and be in business.

A possible URL would be:

yourslimserver:9000/nokia770

Nothing too hard.

I ordered one too so you can see it setup (hopefully) when you come visit in July.

WOW, great price for this guy.

My stupid suggestion is that we move the Slimserver/Squeezbox set-up questions to a different thread/forum.
They are valid questions (answers are fairly straight-forward) but may not get good viewing here.

My question about the Nokia 770 is:
Can this tablet pc become a remote for other music server ideas.  I'm rethinking the SB3 idea and now thinking PC or Mac via USB dac.  So I guess I'd need to find a pc-based music front-end that can be web-based (unlike Foobar or iTunes), right?  The Nokia needs to point to a URL, like it would for my Slimserver Nokia skin?

caveat: i bought one of these when they first came out, and could not get it to connect via my apple extreme wifi router. tech support at nokia (after a lengthy discourse) informed me that the device was really developed for a windows platform and they did not support apple. i understand there are those out there that have used the nokia with an apple router, but i could not make it happen. it IS one slick little device, though...

That's great, George, as I don't think (oh heck, I know) I won't have time to play with it before then.  I also hope to wire up some outdoor speakers, so it'd be cool to use the SB to play any song and to control the volume using this Nokia device.  Also, this means I can go anywhere in the house (once I get a wireless router, that is) and read the news, etc.  Plus, this thing is so small that it should be easy to cart around.

Just hope they don't mysteriously turn themselves on like mine does. Every time I go to use it, the battery is dead

I snagged one too.  When Bob mentioned "out on the deck" it made me realize that if I move my SB3 rig, it will work perfectly for the family room, which has deck speakers set up.  Sittin' on the deck and having this control is very kewl.

I've used woot.com once before and had no problems with them.  Sometimes their deals are really impressive, sometimes not so.  They seem like a decent outfit from what little exposure I've had with them though.

The 770 makes a great remote for the Olive units as well...
