Agreed. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear real music and see it recorded by a pro. Thanks again to Adrian for pulling this all together, John for sharing his time and expertise (and the ultimate product) and Dennis for his artistry. This was a real step up for GAS activities. Hopefully we can do this more often. As Dennis said, the organ there is very transparent and unforgiving so he had to be at the top of his game last night. It was also good to see some new faces there.

Absolutely.  Sue and I had a great time.  It's always nice to get the ears trained again with some live music in a real venue.

Thanks to those involved in making this event happen.  It was a fantastic opportunity to hear live music in a very appropriate setting.   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Laura and I hung out and talked to Adrian, John and Dennis for a while afterwards. I don't want to say too much but there is definitely more on the horizon. We talked about a few things that could turn out to be extremely cool. I'll just say that if things work out, no other audio society will be doing what GAS is about to do  :o

Here is the first of a few shots I took last night for the cover art for our GAS Reference Recording Volume 1 (hint..hint)

A big thanks to John Blaine for donating his time and expertise to make this happen, Dennis Bergin (4 time national award winning organist) for treating us to his talents and last but certainly not least Adrian for organizing all of the key players in our little adventure.

My thanks to John, and Dennis for putting on such a great event :thumb:.Special thanks to Adrian for putting it all together I know it wasn't easy. It was nice to see the turnout and the new faces. It is starting to look like we have the makings of a proper group . Just think in a few weeks we will have a copy of the recital made just for the GAS group (you guys are really turning into audio geeks ). Had a great time, looking forward to the next session.

Here's a little background on Dennis Bergin. We were in prestigious company last night! This was taken from program notes for a St. Louis Symphony concert in which Mr. Bergin played in 2003:

Quote
Dennis Bergin

Dennis Bergin, a native of Clay Center, Kansas, earned the B.M. and M.M. degrees in Organ Performance from Wichita State University, where he studied organ with Robert Town. He is currently Director of Music and Organist at the First Unitarian Church of St. Louis. He is also Principal Organist for the American Kantorei of St. Louis “Bach at the SEM” concert series at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis.

He has won numerous awards in organ performance throughout the United States and in 1984 was named one of five finalists in the international Grand Prix de Chartres organ competition in Paris and Chartres, France. He was also awarded first place in the 1989 International Organ Performance Competition sponsored by the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He has enjoyed several appearances on “Pipedreams,” a nationally syndicated radio program devoted to the organ and its music. He has performed as an organ soloist throughout the U.S., as well as in duo recitals with his wife, flutist Julia Posey Bergin.

Mr. Bergin has completed two concert works for solo organ: T.S. Eliot Impressions, Set I and T.S. Eliot Impressions, Set II. Both works have their inspiration in the poetry of this distinguished twentieth-century poet. The first set of T.S. Eliot Impressions was published in June 2000 by Morning Star Music Publishers of St. Louis.

Mr. Bergin debuts this weekend with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Pretty Cool. :thumb:

Hey thanks, everybody!! I had a great time working on all this, and I got so much satisfaction from seeing everything pull together so well. We had great attendance, great music from Dennis, and we'll have a great recording from John as well. Also, I'd like to thank everyone that contributed funds towards this event, and everyone who brought something for our dining pleasure. The spread was really wonderful. We'll do this again, and will add some variety into the mix as well down the road.

I just can't believe how fast his hands were moving when Dennis changed registers with one hand while continuing to play. It was super human, not missing a beat in the process. We were truly in the presence of greatness. What a night to remember.

What a great time !
I really enjoyed that event, Dennis is an incredible musician, the fastest Lever Pulling-Pushing hands in the Land. And the foot work to make Fred Astaire jealous !
  It was in-cred-i-ble !
I didn't know Organist worked as hard as a drummer !

I can't wait to get a copy of the CD.

Thanks Adrian, John, Dennis and all .

Actually, the next time we may have someone with a high definition camcorder to come down and shoot the event for us. It doesn't work that great in low light, but we'll see.

Very nice!  2 camera would make it look great, although I guess editing time would go up about 100x.

Does anyone know what type of equipment and mic's were used to record this session? I was just curious.
