Streets of San Francisco

This shot caught my eye from the Sausolito Ferry. After the earthquake in 1906 the city kept the original grid plan in spite of all the hills, and you can really see it in this shot.

Not from today but this band, Little Dragon, is performing in LA tonight and I was going to make the trek, but work prevailed 500 miles away. So this pic is from a show I saw last month in Santa Cruz. Still trying out the concert photo thing and it was fun but in the end I will leave it to the pros. At least I had the opportunity to bring my good camera into the El Rio. Thanks Laurence!

[can someone confirm that the flickr set link is accessible?--been having trouble with that]

Hey!

  Thanks.

No, not HDR. That was from a single shot. There were enough detail in highlight and shadow in the RAW file from my camera that I managed to pulled out in post processing. :D

    Talking about HDR....

A view of my back window at midnight. This was HDRed. 5 shots were used to make this final image.

Take care,

Took my Sigma 10-20mm DX out for one last dance before selling it--I am using a full frame camera now. Wide angle is sure a cool effect. These are just quick snapshots hand held. Shot above is ISO 1250 (gotta love the D700 for that!)

More shots from the walk just before sunset. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45391449@N08/sets/72157622826170779/show/

That's pretty cool, usually I don't see any digital camera images with visible image circle.  It really goes to show you just how small the area of sharpness is within a lens, although that looks to be shot at a large ?-stop as well.

Nathan,
Yep, since the lens is a crop(DX) sensor specific lens, it creates a smaller image circle than a full frame lens (FX/film). And as you mention, the usable area (sharp) is even smaller within that image circle--but I like its sorta Holga-like effect. That shot was at the lens' widest aperture f/4 (@ 1/200, ISO 1250) 10mm.

BTW that lower, out of focus, bunch in the middle was about 1 inch from the front of the lens.

Getting ready to land in Ft Meyers, Florida on the way to Marco Island. This was of course shot through 3 layers of glass and plastic, but I though it was an interesting shot.

Risking my life to bring you life in the Everglades.

Actually in the summer this might have been a somewhat dangerous shot, but in this season, the gators are not eating and they just want to get some sun.

This is the biggest one we saw  - 12 feet long
