I have never seen bighorn sheep in the wild. The Catalina Mountains above Tucson have bighorn sheep but after decades of hiking they have eluded me, if I ever did see them they would be on a ridge far, far away.

30 miles South of Kodachrome State Park on Cottonwood Canyon Road I had to make a sudden stop. Three bighorn sheep jumped out in front of my Outback and scrambled up the sheer cliff on my left. The Paria river was on my right so I guessed the sheep were going home after browsing and drinking.

I guess I'm faster than I thought. I rolled down the window, grabbed my phone and guessed which way they went. As you can see from the photos, bighorn sheep blend into the landscape very well. It appears the group was made up of two females and a juvenile, the last bighorn stopped for a photo op.

3 Bighorn sheep - can you find the third?

Bighorn sheep also have a sense of humor, this one is mooning me and giving me a raspberry

Plenty of bighorns around Clifton/Morenci, right by the top of the mine. They are neat to see. Did the Subway hike in Zion. It requires a short swim in freezing cold water. Great pictures. Sounds like it was a terrific trip.

"Milky Way Rising"
- Silverton, Colorado

This shot was taken just a few feet from our Subaru Outback, the first night we arrived in Silverton, CO.
We slept in the car that night since we needed to get to the Alpine Lakes Trailhead before daybreak the next morning.

Gregg, often there are no reactions to your photos, but I for one continue to be stunned by each new shot you post. Even though this is an audio forum, nothing here is more impressive than your work. Please keep'em coming!

That's a nice landscape for a dinosaur!

It's too big to upload here, but here's an AI video clip of the photo in action:
