Here you go bside123......... Finally, after two weeks, we had a couple of hummers show up today. A male and a female. I saw the female first, but didn't get a picture. A few minutes later, the male showed up. I got one of him. Not the best, but it'll do for now.

Thanks JVC. Our exchange encouraged me, and today I've been practicing shooting images a little bit at the feeder. This is the same bottle of red syrup, as the previous photo, and I'm happy to say that it's almost gone. Per your suggestion, I'll be replacing it with clear, home brew. Thanks for your pic.

Hey JVC. How can you tell the males from the females? Is that a male or a female in my photos? We've got some hummers showing up with ruby colored throats too.

The males are the ones with the ruby throats. So those in your pictures are females.

Humans are the only species of animal, that the female is prettier than the male.
I hope to one day get one to drink from my hand. If you'll notice in most videos of that happening, it's when they're swarming around a feeder, because there's so many of them. We've only had 3-4 (last year), and they don't go to the feeder at the same time.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, I forgot........... did you know it's a federal offense to possess a hummingbird, and even a hummingbird feather? It's because they are a migratory species. Great Hummingbird shots.

IME, it's very difficult (impossible?) to have a completely frozen hummingbird motion, esp the wings and feather around the torso. What kind of shutter speeds are we using here?

ISO 200, Vintage 1985 Minolta "Beercan" 70-210mm Lens @ about 170mm (255 crop equivalent), f/5.6, 1/2000 sec, Tripod w/ Wireless Remote, RAW processed in Adobe Lightroom 4

Fortunately, I had plenty of light and some good luck!

This photo was taken in rural Kentucky near Barkley Lake. The colors are true... and yes, those are the colors of the dirt, the dried grass, the cesspool fishing pond and the fisherman... um... maybe I should cringe and say "fisherboy." And yes, that's the TV antennae in the blue green water. Maybe you git them better channels that way.
