This has actually given us good food for thought.  At some point, we may start
making individual reviews available on the website, but for now we just don't have
the budget to tear the magazine apart and reformat in that manner...

For now, we will get a full index up in the next couple of weeks!

Ok, I know it's been over 40 days since anyone posted on this topic, but as a publisher I feel compelled to do so:

After considering the various online formats I chose pdf because it formatted A$$A just how it looked in my publishing software.  I've always been frustrated by how HTML can appear in different browsers.  By using PDF, I avoid those issues.

In the past few months I have taken readers suggestions to heart regarding the readability of A$$A.  I have reduced the font size, and now offer both a 2 column (for the surprising number of readers who print out each issue), and a single column for online readers.  In addition, each review is available individually.

Finally, I want to mention once again how thoroughly in awe I am of Jeff's photography and layout skills (coutesy of his better half I believe).  There is no better looking publication available.

I like the free food idea.  Missing In N Out since moving to the Pacific Northwest.
We only have Burgerville and it is pale in comparison.

Mark, thanks as always for the kind words.  Jean and I are pretty much a team.
She's the designer, Im the photographer and the photoshop guy.

We used to work in the ad agency business for years.  I used to shoot cars
for Porsche, Chevrolet and motorcyles for Ducati, so it's all about shiny
things I guess!!

We chose PDF for the same reasons you did and other than a few people
not liking it, we have about 60 thousand that do, so for now its the way
to go for us.  We have also added web content for those that like their
info that way...

Can't make em all happy, but we try our best!

Now if I could just get away from paying 11 dollars each for those gorgeous
British car magazines....

Classic Car by chance? Awesome read and the ads in the back for those vintage cars always make me...

I like that one too, but I usually read CAR, a couple of the BMW magazines and
one or two of the F1 mags....

They have so much cool stuff over there that we don't get here
car-wise.  Im with you on the drool factor!

Tone is sweet...

ONE of the best things Ive seen on downloading PDFs are the two from AV.. The Perfect Vision and Winding Road. The contents page links to the magazine sections, click on article pieces and you can catch video and all advertising links to their sites. This takes advantage of the PDF format and the fact that it accesses the web.

Does Tone do that?

Yep, I used to work for the Absolute Sound and AV Guide....

Same thing with our reviews, they also link to the mfrs site!

We have a few more tricks up our sleeve as time goes by.
Our art director and a couple of our other contributors all
came from the advertising agency world, so we'll be ratcheting
things up as we go into the next year.
