Cover the pot-you can also preheat the pan/liquid in the pot in the oven while the oven is coming up to temp-just add a little more liquid

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try this technique next time on some unlucky crabs. What kind of beer do you use? Budweiser or Microbrew?? I bet Microbrew will make the crabs taste better.
Does the screen hold the crab out of the liquid(beer)? Or is it only to hold the crab off the bottom of the pan?Or, and these instructions are for pre-cooked crab you get in the stores right?
