Reality Cable Interconnects

Last year I had a good deal on a Musical Fidelity KW500 integrated amp, this is a two piece kit with a separate PSU and a single chassis that contains a tubed preamp and two power amps.  One of the advantages was not having to be tempted trying different interconnects between the preamps and amps - wrong :duh:  I was informed by a 'reliable source' that the preamps and amps where not hardwired internally but used a regular RCA interconnect.  After this call it took me about 2 minutes to get the top off  and found 0.5m interconnects being used from  Nordost - well Kudos to MF for making an effort.
At the same time I was trying out (and subsequently bought) Gregg's superb speaker cables, and had him send me IC's to try out:

I also tried out more expensive IC's from Nordost, along with a number of other IC's that appear on the Audiophool 'A' list - all of these made a big difference.  All excellent products from good companies.  Then Gregg's IC's arrived - I was shocked, the improvement was so good it was just not funny.  I spent the next few weeks trying to convince myself that IC's costing 5 times that of Gregg's had to be better - just like a good Audiphool subscriber has been taught to do  :thumb:  But to no avail, so Gregg's IC's take pride of place in my KW500.  Furthermore an off the shelf 0.5m IC is way to long and has to be tied off, Gregg made an 8 inch IC that is a perfect fit and a much neater solution.

Unfortunately I'm not able to share this info with other MF users as the nice people over at A*gon have a problem with sharing good news about certain non-mainstream suppliers, and rejected a similar post.  I can only hope that my find is shared on this forum.

NB
Any MF owners that want to know what IC's I tried can do so by pm.

I don't think you'd would have a problem posting what other IC's you tried...were open minded here....and different one's do work better than others.
Greg does make some excellent cables.... 8)

Enjoy your Salk's....their a good speaker....

Just my experience with Gregg's cables as well! They are excellent. I think the Superphon preamps and one loudspeaker manufacturer uses his cables in their components as well.

Hey!

Looks pretty good. :D And there are SS or tube version. Very interesting, wonder what's the difference. :D

What impressed me the most from their site is that they offer 20 days money back guarantee! :o

Chris, you do have some of these cables right?

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Hey!

Yeah, I'm sure you have a closet or two but instead of shirts and pants on hangers, you have hundreds of cables on cloth hangers. Do you arrange them by type and length? :jester:

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I'm not sure how much of this cable stuff is science, black art or luck?  Synergy must have something to do with it, as even though I hear a huge difference with IC's between the pre and power amp sections of my KW500, the type of IC used between my Modwright 999ES and preamp has almost zero impact on sound quality.
It was Danny Richie who I have to thank for putting me onto Gregg when I was looking for speaker cables, having heard Danny's designs he's on my A list for knowing what sounds good or not.

I tried the speaker cables first, however my expectation level was not high on Gregg's IC's as I wrongly perceived that his core competence was speaker cables only - I almost fell over in disbelief when  I tried the IC's, they're definitely worth a try.

Chris - as an aside I seem to recall that you had Butler amps, I have the three channel Butler (a very competent undervalued amp) running my HT center and rear channels.  Did you try Greggs's speaker cables with Butler's by any chance?

Just looked at Web site and was surprised to read that SteroPhile and the Absolute Sound require 6 months of advertising before a review is considered.
That is pure bull IMO. This has not been my experience. The cables may be great but the promo is bull.

Danny was using Greg's cables at RMAF 2005....and his room sounded good. :thumb:

Still use the Butler's, I have two 2250's, and I use Greg's SC's as well with them....good synergy. Give them a try..... :green:

I've never heard Greg's IC's but I own a pair of his speaker wires and I would recommend anything he makes.
