Funny Brandon,  I was also going to say something about why all his new posts are IN ALL CAPS.  He must not be aware of internet forum standards.  :duh:

I have a pr of the standard monos and a pr of the extreme monos.  Both prs are stacked - have been for years.  No problems at all.  Not hot - except for the sound of course.     Now as a disclosure - I have never not stacked the amps so who knows - maybe I have been a dolt for all these years...  But then again, it I didn't stack the suckers where would I lean all my albums?

There are 2 real reasons why you shouldn't stack amps:

(1) heat (unless they run cool, then it could be OK if #2 is not a factor)
(2) torroidal transformers (these donoughts shoot a beam of interferance straight through the middle of their hole, kind of like a javalin. They are usually laid flat inside, so the javelin travels up and down. If you have torroids in your amp them keep them away from your racked components and definitely don't stack them.)

If you have traditional transformers and the amp is not biased into class A you may be able to get away with it. But I don't recommend stacking tube amps either  :banghead:

Enjoy,
Bob

Why buy separate pre and power amp and then stack things. A simpler solution would be an integrated amp.
There is a whole industry out there working towards reducing noise (electrical, mechanical, etc.) - from racks to footers to damping material.

It is like walking bare foot vs wearing shoes.

I have found Isol Pads to work positively and universally under all audio equipment - source, pre-amp, poweramp, cables, speakers. And they are quite affordable too (4 for $25).

Cheers
Sunil.

thanks Bob and Sunil for your response,i do have a entertainment unit, but it will have to be modified alot to tackle my 7.1,  i know stacking is a no no but had to ask.    as far as integrated goes,no thanks,i like my components, more the marryer(?)...

"stacking is a no no"?  With all due respect, my Mono Extremes weigh 60+ lbs each (not exactly in the Vibrapod family...).  They have never run hot.  I do not think there is a person on this forum that could tell the difference in sound whether they were on top of one another or next to each other.  I know that I can't.  To think that they could seems just plain silly to me.

"It is like walking bare foot vs wearing shoes"?  Most of the time - lol - I can surely tell you when I have shoes on and when I don't.  I am most certain you could not tell the difference between when my amps are stacked vs. side by side.  Is it good for them to be stacked?  No harm IMO as they run cool.  Is it bad?  Not IMHO.

Jeez, this one just gets to me a bit as I would never want a prospective owner of these fine amps to be scared away by space limitations.  I'm sure some in the Odyssey line may run hotter than others (of course final q's should go to Klaus), but to say they can/should never be stacked is IMO nonsense.  My experience predicts otherwise.

hi Don,if a man has to stack,a man has to stack!!!as i said before,if u rack your amps, heat rises, besides these amps are built like tanks and shouldn't breakdown when they get into a tight spot!!!   thanks John
