Price 4B-SST vs price 6B-SST, I cann't get it?
« on: 3 May 2007, 07:06 pm »
I'm very interested in a 6B-SST, because I want my front left and right have the same sound as my center speaker.
For the stereo part I thought a 4B-SST is the amp for me. But I missed something for my centerspeaker, till I saw there is a Bryston 6B-SST. Wonderful I thought, till I saw the price!!

I thought the 4B-SST cost me 4279 euro so this amplifier with one mono block more cost around 1/2 more, something like 6500 euro. BUT HELL NO, it's going to cost me 7700 euro's!!!

What is happening here? Can some-one explain me why one monoblock more cost me almost the dubble? The specs. are all the same for this extra block.

I've wondered the same thing (I have both the 4B SST and 6B SST).  Another option you have is to go for a PowerPac 300 which should be the same as one channel of the 4B SST.  It may cost you a bit more but it provides a lot more flexibility IMHO.  You can add more PowerPacs later on or if you require Stereo get another 4B SST

You can also go with a 9B-SST with 3ch modules.

Hi All,

The 6B is simply more costly to manufacture than the 4B (or a 4B and 1/2). The 4B has a single 1 piece chassis. The 6B is a modular design so requires 3 totally different independent chassis.

Also the 6B is physically larger than the 4B and the cost and gauge of the metal work (faceplate handles etc.) is greater.

And if the below trend continues - costs on manuf. for all the amps will go up:

"July Copper Hits Contract High
May 03, 2007 3:09 PM EDT
NEW YORK - Copper futures hit contract highs in New York on Thursday, boosted by ongoing warehouse inventory drawdowns and labor unrest in Peru.

"It was technically driven, and then there was (fundamental) support," said Catherine Virga, base metals analyst with CPM Group.

The most active July copper contract settled up 8.20 cents at $3.7265 per pound on the New York Mercantile Exchange."
