OK, so I'm tired of hitting my head against the wall regarding active speakers. One of main annoyances is most amplifier sections and their warranties. Most true active speakers that I am aware of have kind of lame warranties - to me that means the manufacturer isn't too confident in the amp. E.g. Meridian, Beolab, Mackie, Genelec; PMC is 5 years, and ATC is 6 years but ATC's is the best amp warranty I can find. Even the old Paradigm Active 20's and 40's had only 3 years on the amps. The only commercially available way I came across is to use Linkwitz Orion speakers with Bryston amp(s) to capitalize on the 20 year warranty.
So enough is enough - come on James, how 'bout it? All the cards are lined up: Bryston already makes great crossovers and amps, and from some previous posts, you've been know to dabble with bi-poles and/or dipoles. We're so close! Since my suggestion will hopefully be adopted by Bryston tommorow, here are my suggestions:
- do not incorporate internal amps, leave the consumer the choice of amp. For Bryston die-hards such as myself, leave posts on the rear for easy PowerPac attachment {I know, I know, the crossover has to come before the amp, but certainly they could be wired "in reverse" to allow for appropriate rear-panel inputs, no?}
-have auto-on sensing when a signal is present, and with a "power on" indicator on the front. Encourages laziness, I mean convenience
-speaker grilles please
- don't mess around with designing "custom drivers." There are plenty of outstanding drivers already on the market.
- at least a few models to be available priced below $10K us
- offer more color choices than slate and electric blue
Thanks for reading James, let me know what month this year these will be coming out!
