4Bsst and which tube pre?
« on: 6 Apr 2007, 02:07 am »
I'd like to pair my 4Bsst with either the Aesthetix  Calypso or one of the BAT pre amps. Did a search - didn't find anything. Anyone have any firsthand experience with these two or similar tube pre amps? Looking for remote and balanced in/out.

I thank you for all of your replies and insight.
No tubes here I guess!
I (at the recommendation of many A'goners) picked up an Audio Research LS25, and the amp is singing like it never has before, even with 2 different $5K+ SS preamps. I honestly did not think the amp was capable of this much detail and space.

I've seen the AR-LS25 talked about quite a lot. Must be good based on it's popularity and your experience. Glad it worked out for you. I use a Sonic Frontiers Line3 SE myself and am quite happy with the results.

Me myself are using the Cary SLP2002.
I like this combo very much.
My Hi-Fi friends also do like this combo.
This preamp have all the in/out you ever ask for.  :)
My speaker are ATC scm35.
They need the power of Bryston  :thumb:

This week i have tested the old Audio Research Sp-14.
WOW!!
But it has no balanced in/out and no remote.
The tube riia alone is worth the money.
And no, this is not an tube preamp.....

For about 2 weeks ago, I tried Ming Da MC 2A3 Tube Preamplifier.
I seriously consider to buy this preamp.
I was so very pleased about the synergy between my 4B SST and the MC 2A3.
But again, no balanced in/out.
Just wanted to share my listening here.....  :)

I've had a Cary SLP 98l with a 4bsst, 14bsst and 9bsst and also liked the results.

Hello Chuck,

In my opinnion it is VERY important that you use the balanced input in your 4Bsst. I had an experience with the Audible Illusion 3A pre but absolutely went for the good old Pass Aleph P (I can only afford second hand equipment :(). The use of the balanced way makes the 4Bsst sound to its full potentials. Regards. Marcin
