Here is another tutorial for setting up EAC with FLAC. My EAC is setup pretty close to what is in on this site and everything works smoothly.

Hi:

My flac problem has been fixed :drums: I want to thank everyone for their time in responding to my post.  bpape, bprice2, DSK & Steve - thank you for your replies and suggestions.  A very special thanks needs to go out to jermmd (Joe) who took part of his Sunday evening to help me over the phone.  After over an hour of redoing things, everything is working perfectly. :thumb:

Hopefully, I will be able to help someone else here at the Circle on some issue that might come up like people here helped me.

Yours,
rklein - Randy

Congrats Randy, now you can start ripping all those CD's  :D

Congratulations Randy.
Thanks for bringing this up. I actually got mine working now too thanks to all the posts yesterday. Pasting the flac.exe file into the EAC folder did it for me. Sure saves time this way. ENjoy.

Thanks DSK-

By the way, how do you like your AKSA stuff??  I've been toying with trying one of their amps with a tubed pre.

It's great when something works the way it was meant to.  Enjoy yours as well Steve.

Well, the best way I can probably describe it is simply to say that my life long inability to 'accept' my system and leave it alone is cured. The cure was a cocktail of the following parts: 50% AKSA (LifeForce 100 amp & GK-1 pre-amp); 20% Selah Audio (ScanSpeak Reference speakers); 15% Bolder (SB2 mods & PS); 10% Rythmik Sub; & 5% other (cables, AC stuff etc).    ...this was after room acoustics were suitably treated.

As always YMMV, but to my ears the AKSA LifeForce is as good as any amp I've heard (inc. SS and tube amps up to $40k). However, being sold in kit form you will need DIY skills (or a friend) and be able to accept the notion that a 'kit amplifier' can sound as good as this (many people can't ... I couldn't before I heard it). Although the LifeForce doesn't suffer the typical negative aspects of solid state amp sound, it is best paired with an excellent tube pre-amp.

Aw, Shucks, Darren,

Thank you!!

So Randy.

Just for general information and future reference, what was it that was causing the issue?

Bryan

I'm not sure what was causing the issue. My first advice was to simply copy and paste from the guides so that you don't introduce errors when typing. It's been so long since I set my EAC up that I don't really remember why it was set up as it is. My set-up is not exactly the same as the coaster factory set-up but it works perfectly. I'm not even sure if I have the most recent versions of FLAC and EAC.

Anyway, your welcome Randy. It's nice to be able to help. It's usually me getting help from the much more knowledgeable and generous members of these forums. I'm glad you didn't give up. Now that everything is set up you can burn away and enjoy the Squeezebox. It really is a cool way to listen to music. The CD player as transport is a dead technology for me.

Hey Bryan:

I believe that my initial mistake was a not interpreting the instructions correctly on page 14 of the EAC Quickstart Manual from the Coaster Factory.  Therefore, I had the wrong info typed into the Additional command line options box located on the External Compression Tab of the Compression Options.  When jermmd was helping me last night over the phone (thanks again Joe), he suggested that I copy & paste from this site: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=30959  I also highly recommend to people just starting out with EAC to set their software up this way as well rather than by typing in this info.  I then set up my entire EAC Options, Drive Options, Compression Options, etc. to match jermmd's EAC, which by the way, he set up from the above site, which BTW, does not match the EAC Quickstart Manual .  Do not use Eli's settings but rather westgroveg's settings listed throughout this particular thread.  I am not implying that other people haven't been successful using the EAC Quickstart Manual, however, my advice for newbies would be to use the hydrogenaudio settings.

On another note(no pun intended),  MY combination of the SB3 (digital mods by Wayne at Boulder), along with his Basic Rev. 1 power supply, feeding a Zhaolu DAC(with Occam's idea of 2106 opamps)(also thinking of sending in the zhaolu for Oritek's mods), feeding an Odyssey Tempest pre, going to an Odyssey Khartago is worlds ahead soundwiseof using my stock Sony S-7700 feeding the same combination. I agree with jermmd wholeheartedly. After ripping my first four CD's and seeing the utter convenience that a computer front end allows while upgrading the audio (usually convenience goes hand in hand with a downgrade...), I too will not go back to a CD player as a transport.

Yours,
Randy
