McAlister Audio PP-150 Tube Amplifier
« on: 23 Feb 2007, 04:39 pm »
After waiting for a couple of months, my new McAlister PP-150 amplifier is on its way. I sold my Odyssey Audio Khartago Mono Extremes to try out this new amplifier. I am eager to listen to this amplifier since I have been without an amplifier for a couple of months. I'll post my impressions soon. The amplifier will be driving Magnepan MG1.6QR speakers. My other components are SAS 10A preamplifier and aTRL Sony DVP-NS900V CD player.

What were you using in the interim?

It's too bad that my dealings with Peter were not so positive. I emailed him on several ocaasions only to get either a  very delayed response or none at all. I've moved on from considering his gear. Service and customer realtions are important to me as well as good gear.

Pacifico,

The telephone works wonders when email fails.  I know someone (who incidentally might be flogging his McAllister amp for Odyssey mono's) that had no problem getting a hold of Peter on numerous occasions.

Let us know when you get them.

I have a PL-10 preamp of his and he’s currently doing a circuit design change for me to accommodate low impedance headphones.

I’m ordering his SE32 amp.

Peter is a pleasure to speak too.

I've met the man a couple of times and heard his m130 mono blocks. He's apperantly loaded down with orders and said he is very busy trying to fill those orders.
Peter definatly is passionate about his work and I must say that I thought his m-130 mono's sounded sweet, although my listening time with them was short.

The quality of the sound from the PP-150 (I actually have a PP-130) is fabulous.  Based on my experience with this unit and the PL-12 preamp, quality control and keeping commitments to customers are his biggest problems.

I don't own one of his products (am considering one though) and i have had no problems emailing him lately, in fact i have found he's been getting back to me within an hour or two usually.  I have also heard he is more than willing to chat on the phone.

I would be a bit more forgiving when people don't reply to emails, there are usually numerous good excuses, such as its being filtered by the mail server or his mail client.   if you really need to talk to someone, call them if they arnt replaying to your emails.

a guy that can rarely ever get clients and suppliers to email him back :P

on a more audio related topic,

has anyone had the chance to do a comparison of the sonic signature of the PP150 vs the SE44?

First box of PP-150 arrived today. I suspect the other box will arrive on Monday. The first box was the chassis and tubes. The chassis is too large to fit into my audio rack, so I placed it on an amp stand next to the audio rack. Build quality is solid and the amplifier appears alot like it does on mcalisteraudio.com. Once configured and after burn-in, I'll post my impressions.

Does the piece have the correct face plate?
Is it in one piece?
