Am thinking of either the (Norh Special 5.1 Video System in wood - 1 pair nOrh 5.1, 1 pair nOrh 4.0, 1 nOrh 4.0 center)
for US$950 or ascends 340se LCR + ascends 170se for about US$1300. which should i go for? thanks

Norh is unique and the sound is good.
Ascends are American and also sound good.  Someone is also selling some Ascends here.

If it truly is going to be used as a ht system, I would opt for (5) ceramic 4.0's all around.  The ceramic speakers will add some clarity and have better dispersions than the wood 5.1.  Saving you some $ to boot.  Add a hsu or svs sub and you'll have an excellent home theater system.

While I have never heard the Ascends, they are getting great press and imagine the above statement would qualify for them too.
