preamp question?
« on: 21 Feb 2007, 04:30 am »
Hello:

I have been noticing in Audiogon that hardly a day goes by without someone trying to sell their Aesthetix Calypso or McIntosh 2200 preamp. Is there a problem(s) with these pieces...what gives? Thanks.

Don't know about the Calypso, if that is the one you are talking about (they make a Callisto, so it
gets confusing)

I've noticed that people tend to upgrade in waves, so not to worry.

Both of those preamps are quite good.

If there are a bunch of Calypso's up for sale, they could be trading up to Callistos,
I know Jim White at Aesthetix told me at CES that the demand for the Callisto
(their flagship preamp) has been off the chart lately...

Don't know what to say about the 2200, that's a very good full function preamp
from Mac.

It might just mean that some other preamp got a rave review and everyone is rushing off in that direction.

It most certainly does not mean there is anything wrong with either product.
