Compare B100 and Creek Destiny?
« on: 21 Feb 2007, 02:30 am »
I'm looking for a good, musical SS 100 watt Integrated to drive my JM Reynaud Evolution 3 speakers.
The Bryston has a great rep, but may be a bit closed in through the mid-range and vocals?
The Creek could be more open and airy but less bass control?
I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks
Eril

Hi eril,

Keep your eye out for a review on the B100 DAC in the Stereophile April 07 issue.

Hi All,

The B100 SST with DAC review in Stereophile (April issue) is out next week.

If anyone wants a PDF of the review email me and I will send you a copy -  jamestanner@bryston.ca.

Have a look at the superb measurements on the DAC section in the technical section of the review.

Hi James,

I'm looking forward to reading it

When do you expect the CD player to become available?

I received the following a couple weeks ago:

Please be advised that we will be releasing for sale the new Bryston BCD-1 (CD player) beginning in April 2007.

Thanks for the reply John & James.

The CD player that is being released in April is that the one with its own power supply?

Since I own the BP26, I was considering the player that would share the power supply with the BP26. Is there pricing and availability information on this model?

From an isolation perspective, how much better would it be to have the CD player NOT share the power supply with the BP26?

I will be buying a 5A Torus (as suggested by James recently) for my video and digital sources.

Any thoughts on the trade-offs between configurations of the two players and the Torus?

Thanks,
-- Bob

HI Bob,

We are only releasing the complete CD Player for now. We have been rethinking the CD player without power supply and will probably not offer a player without power supply.

We are using a dual power supply within the CD Player - one winding for the digital section and 1 winding for the analog section.  Given this design we find the performance is better than a single supply from the MPS-2.

That's cool. It greatly simplifies my decision. I assume the same logic will apply to the external DAC?

I'm still wondering whether I'll have a need for multiple digital inputs in the future. Having one or two digital inputs on the player would have been nice. The Cambridge Audio 840C provides this. It might come in handy with a HD or Blu-ray player later.

Thanks,
Bob

I was considering the Destiny, and Pathos Logos Classic when I was looking for an amp to drive my Martin Logan. After trying a Cary integrated that sounded like a muffled rug I borrowed the Bryston demo unit for a day. After 1 second I knew I couldnt return it !
In this country it costs twice as much as in the USA, so expectations will be high, it competes with a lot of very good amplifiers. I could have bought a used Krell 400XI for less, but didnt try it out.
Anyway, I feel I have a good match with the speakers, the Bryston is extremely open and transparent, you dont get the feeling you are listening to an amplifier at all, you listen to the source.
Another strong point is the absolutely fabulous low level resolution and dynamics. By this I mean when you play at very low volumen. At night I often play music at such low volum that the electrostats turn themselves off, and still my wife asks if I cant turn the sound down a bit....maybe I shouldnt have sold my headphones !

Should I mention one, minor, not so good thing about the Bryston it would be the volumen knop. It is secured with a hex nut and tend to "feel" loose, not a high end feeling.
