I have a small power supply for sale, and just received an inquiry requesting shipment to Calgary Canada.  The unit probably weighs about 4 LBS.  Can anyone suggest a carrier, or enlighten me to any problems shipping Northbound over the border?

USPS (United States Postal Service) is the easiest and they include brokerage fee's in the reasonable shipping cost.  Real easy and if you have an account you can do it online ;)  I've shipped 20+ items to Canada and never had a problem.

Do the Canadian customer a favor.Send the order regular USPPS ground insured.
Other than that FED EX,UPS will charge $20-30.00 broker fees for the package.

When possible ship to Canada using snail mail if the person does not mind to wait 7-14 days.If speed is the issue just give the customer the heads u of the broker fees that will have to be paid.

Bigger issue in my case has been the GST/HST - 14% of declared value.  I believe USPS charges $8 for Priority Mail broker fee + HST collected.

To Calgary there is no Province tax only 6% GST (Goverment Sales Tax) and if sent pacel post service a handling charge of $5.00 is the most that CP charges for fee's that I am aware of.

This Tax only applies on goods sent to Canada not items sent out of Canada.

Well to Alberta GST is the only tax but to here in B.C. we have the GST and PST 13% total :duh:

Well, I happen to be in Calgary.  What a coincidence!

Yea...what they said
USPS is the way to go.  I've also received many many shipments without a single issue.

...on a related note...how FedEx and UPS get away with the widely varied and exorbitant broking and customs fees they charge is nuts!  :nono:

Yeah, but it's worth it.  Alberta winters suck and those flat prairie landscapes are about as stimulating as a woman without curves.   :shake:

Can't argue about the winters....it's -15C right now and...well, shitty!

Calgary's on the midline between prairies and Foothills so we're minutes away from being in the mountains.  I quite like the terrain around us.

Great skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, camping...it's all minutes away.

I'll be the first to admit that the city sucks IMO.  It's becoming a 1M+ work camp.  The oil business is turning Calgary into an ugly place from within.  I don't picture my family being here for too much longer.

Sorry to veer off topic.

Thanks for all the input.  I'll see if I can get a figure off the USPS web site.
