Hi all,

I am currently running CA Security Center 3.1.0.14. So far it is stable as a rock! I also have Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.2 I found at work. Hmmm...Anyway, I found Outlook Express. It is now Windows Mail.

Since I run Mac OSX and Vista side by side I'll notice a few things:

OSX has Widgets, now Vista has Gadgets (the same thing)

OSX started to have "lickable" buttons and interface, now Vista also has it

OSX has instant searching, now Vista has it

One of the few things "stolen" from Windows is the small arrow in aliases (shortcuts) in OSX

Yeah, well all mouse traps inherently look alike regardless of who makes them.

I remember when OSX first came out; it was amazing how much it took from Windows. Everyone was commenting how much Apple was trying to look like Windows.

I have never heard anyone say that a Mac OS was trying to copy a Windows OS. It's always the other way around.

Neither has anyone else. Except for fast user switching, I have never heard a convincing case for any 'feature borrowing' from Windows by Apple. And now here is Fista, a glossy new interface over a bunch of features OS X has had for years. It is getting lukewarm reviews. There are no around-the-block lines of early adopters. Apple and Linux (and web based alternatives) are growing threats. No wonder there is such defensiveness among Softies.

Really, I have. Like I said, when OSX was released. It was a BIG LOL!

Windows never really copied Apple, the only time you could have said that was when Win95 came out and compared it to Win3.11 and whatever Mac OS was out at the time. And even still, they both evolved at the same time.

Really it was BOTH companies that copied and built on what Xerox started.

I just checked CompUSA and they are now preloading their computers with 1GB RAM and Windows Vista. It is only a matter of time before this trend to become Nationwide.

There were NEVER any around-the-block lines for ANY versions of Windows that I can recall. Its an OS for god sakes, not an iPod. However, every NEW PC sold today will have it and in short time, it will be everywhere.

The lukewarm reviews are from Mac fans mostly, its how things are in the media. “new interface over a bunch of features OS X has had for years.” You mean Widgets that was developed by Konfabulator which was available for both Mac and PC before it was apart of OSX? Seriously, no one is copying anyone really. It’s the natural evolution of a tool. Apple didn’t’ invent the computer, they didn’t’ invent the portable music player and they didn’t invent the intent (that was Al Gore) and they didn’t’ invent the Cell Phone – all of which Steve Jobs will claim he did. The did however, monopolize on it and in a clever way. But if they were so clever why haven’t they become a major player in the international Computer industry? Why do they hardly represent 2 to 4 percent of it? I don’t know but in my reality when something is THAT good, everyone wants it. Case in point, the iPod.

Vista is wonderful; people are going to LOVE it.

Heck, I worked with computers that had windowing operating systems well before "Windows" ever came out. Unix has been windows-oriented for ages and had fancy skins, remote access, security, etc.

I have not tried the new Parental Control in Vista. It looks promising specially if you have kids. There seems to have many usefull features including controlling IM and game playing and such.

I'm not sure what your point is, but I agree w/ peranders.

I've used MS at home and at work for over 20 years, and have more than enough experience w/ MS operating systems as a user and administrator to last me a lifetime. My 6-month old Mac Pro is far and away the best computer I've ever owned - by my definition - and the supposed fact that Apple's dominance in a particular industry has waned affects my opinion not in the least. What all's said and done, all that matters is whether or not the user and/or owner is happy with the product, right?

If you like MS, great. Apparently your experience with MS products differs with mine and others here, and I'm glad...seriously. But your apparent disdain for Apple will no more change most pro-Apple opinions than my contempt for MS products will dissuade your and others advocacy of them.

BTW, if you want to read a Pro MS/Bash Apple publication, take a look at Maximum PC Magazine. They aren't the only exception to your Apple-loving media references, but they're probably one of the most vehement. I'm not a gamer, but I've had a subscription for 3 years. Great magazine, despite the fact that they love MS-based computers.
