Had a great time at RMAF '06 meeting Lonewolf, Captain Humble, Mgalusha, Paul Folbrecht, Mike Dzurko, Frank Van Alstine, Rick Craig, and others.

I was a customer of Mike's back in the early 80's, so getting to meet him was a real highlight. He told me that I'm like the twenty-somethingeth former customer of his who's now a competitor! And I was mighty impressed with his little Sapphire XL - I stepped into his room to say hello and could immediately tell that his little speaker was getting the power response right in the midrange-through-lower-treble region where it matters most - something little two-ways aren't supposed to be able to do, or so I thought.

Anyway, I'll be in room 1100 again this year, sharing the space with Ralph Karsten of Atma-Sphere and David & Jo Ann Magnan. I might even have a new speaker to show if all the big pieces get here in time (scary that we're this close to showtime and I'm not even sure it'll be done by then... but hey we all remember science fair projects when we were kids - was it ever any other way??).

Looking forward to seeing ya'll there.

Had a quick question to the RMAF veterans....

In the past have you noticed if the exhibitors tend to pack up a day in advance? I mean the number of exhibitors are lower on sunday compared to the previous day? And on the last day, does the show go on till 6pm or will they start winding down from the afternoon onwards?

The reason i ask is because I and my wife plan on coming to colorado and spend abt 3 days going around and 1 day at RMAF (Thursday-Sunday). I'm not sure if i should visit on a saturday or on sunday.

Saturday is the best day - but also the busiest. Most people don't tear down early on Sunday. If anything Friday can be interesting if/when things show up late, things aren't quite dialed in yet, etc.

I will beg to differ

If you want to really listen to the gear in a room and talk to the people running the display, Sunday is the best day to go around. You can also get some good deals if you are willing to buy the demo gear. Quite a few folks would rather sell the stuff than pack it up and ship it back home. I know the room treatments I will be using will be available aa

As Bryan mentioned, the gear can take a day or two to get dialed in. By Sunday everybody has everything sounding as good as they can. On Saturday, there are long lines for the elevators in the tower.

I think Lonewolf mentioned that in order to see every room, you could only spend eight minutes in each room over the course of 3 days. That is if you have a teleporter handy to move you from floor to floor and one end of the hotel to the other.

I suggest you look through the exhibitors and pick the gear you want to listen to. Find out where they are in the hotel and make your plans according to the location.

Absolutely, it's just that the hours are 2 hours less on Sunday - but you're right - it's not nearly as much of a zoo trying to get around.

Saturday at the GABF is even worse!

That is the night the "amateur drunks" come out to play. Lots of early 20's males trying to show off in front of friends.

Even though the servers limit you to a one ounce sample of each beer, there are going to be 1884 different beers there. A 15.5 gallon keg (half barrel) holds 1984 ounces. Some of the youngsters do try to consume that much.

I have attended 21 years worth of GABF. The best time to go is the Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon sessions.

Thursday is the better of those two. That way you can choose from ALL of the beers they have to offer. By Saturday night, the more popular or rare beers will have run out.

If you do go, plan your sampling like RMAF. Plan ahead and just try breweries from one area or maybe just try one style of beer.

Whatever you do, ENJOY! Do please plan to try to stop by Room 1009 at RMAF and say hello.

Good to know about the "amateur hour" -- I'll pass that along to my friends here in town who are going. None of them have been before and I think they're thinking of making a Saturday night of it.

I remember last year on saturday waiting about 15 minutes for the elevators to come down to the 1st floor to pick me up. Saturday is a ZOO!!

This year the RMAF show is larger, and it appears that there is more people coming, this show was pretty large last year, I can only imagine this years...

I remember some people where tearing down a little early on Sunday last year, but we also found alot of people (mostly local), wait until sunday to go to the show because there is alot less people there and people got more listening time in, or if there was any specials or demo closeouts.

On saturday, our room was jam packed, typically people had to come back or walk past because the room was filled most of the middle of the day.

Stop by Room 1017 (on the tenth floor of tower 1000) and check us out!

Elevators crowds....try the stairs....it sometimes quicker.

I used the stairs a few times last year (Tower side)....and did the same at the NY show.

Been trying to tweak my teleporter Wayne...but not having much luck

I'm not really a DIY'er type guy....

That is the way to do it....have your list....with room numbers....and go their first. Check RMAF website....room info is posted for all.

The little bit of time I had to go around to other exhibit rooms last year taught me something.

Once you get an elevator, go up to the highest floor in the tower you're in. Work your way down via the stairwells. In theory, you only have to do the elevator twice a day - once in each tower.

As one more happy (former) owner of the Daedalus DA-1's I'm about ready to hitchhike to Denver to hear the Lou's new Reference series flagship the Ulysses and the totally revised DA-1's. Sold my speakers a few weeks ago to a (now) very happy friend and am waiting for Lou to build me a set of the new ones. My conversations with him suggest that the new models are going to be very, very special. I searched the planet for 2 years before buying the DA-1's which are, in my view, the best thing out there under 15K. Given Lou's track record I'm sure the new models will be better in every conceivable way. For anyone going to the show the Daedalus room has to be high on the "must visit" list of hangouts. If you go, stop back at the thread and let us know what you heard!

I've been pretty hush-hush about my work, in case things didn't pan out ... but after 2 very encouraging days of crossover work, I'm ready to 'officially' say come to room 9014 - the Balanced Power Technologies Room - to see a pretty unique design, that will hopefully become a commercial product within a few months time.

- 10" waveguide thanks to SP Tech loaded with a ScanSpeak 6600 AirCirc and crossed over at 750hz, Seas W22EX in an open baffle, and a Focal 10W6452 in a hybrid sealed/vented/aperiodic enclosure. And a couple swapable crossover networks, one of which is quite unique

And we might have a special guest in the room, let's just say it'll be the waveguide show in 9014.
