OK folks, FWIW, the best price I've found so far for ordering Silver Eichmanns is here ($75/set of 4):

http://www.percyaudio.com

In addition, for those DIYers out there looking for great silver wire, the site offers really pure wire by the foot--teflon shielded or unshielded.  If you buy over 50', you get a 10% discount.

They even sell caps (i.e. TRT) at attractive prices.

Seems like a great one stop shop for such things.

I have used silver in a few systems.  The best results I have heard with my Thiels have been with Ric Jaden's signature ICs.  I have used Homegrown and DH labs on a system with Von Schweikerts and I did not care for the reults at all.  In fact my standard Discovery cable sounded better.

I have used many cables over the years and the Jaden's get it right.  Smooth, extended highs, deep bass, great spatial cues, etc.  Thiels can be bright if fed with a poor source signal (hashy CD) or poor solid state electronics.

Another aspect to consider with them is the placement.  Their dispersion characteristics lend a hand to the birght character some mention due to early room reflections.  Brightness can be a function of the hardness of these surfaces.

As for speaker wire.  I use double runs of Analysis Plus Oval 12 (works better than biwire Oval 9).  I have not experimented with silver on the speaker wire side.  Hope this helps.

TheeChosenOne,

Michael Percy has been around for a while...a bunch of us here have probably ordered from him.

He's a great source for many things and, often, highly discounted.

He's a bit 'scattered' and his email response are not crisp....best you contact him by telephone first to make sure he has in stock.  He normally does...he seems to keep good inventory levels on all I've purchased from him over the years.  Highwire PowerWraps, connectors, BlackGates, ERS I've bought from him in the not-so-distant past.

Overall, everything always made it to me without a hitch, but I'm not left warm and fuzzy till it arrives...each time.  That's not a condemnation of the guy  :( , nor a blazing rave  :) , but just my experience.

His price on the Eichmann power cable, so highly reviewed in a couple places, is very strong...like 25% off list. That's something I'm thinking about.

Has anyone directly compared a bullet plug to some other well-regarded plug (Cardas, say). With no other variables than the change in plugs?

Just curious...

In german magazine Stereo there was a in deep review of connectors the event used:

WBT NextGen
Eichmann bullet
Clear Audio MId MPC

And the results were that the bullet type is the way to go...

I have some scans of that review but are in german...

Thanks for the interest vpolenini.  With the advent of the Bybee Slipstream Magic Bullets, I don't make the Bybee'd Focus any more.  I do have one demo set left, but  you can also get the un-Bybee'd version from Modern Audio Designs (www.modernaudiodesign.com) .

That's interesting, but not the results I got using a digital cable.

The cables were identicle except for the connectors.  The WBT NextGen coppers were better than the Eichman silvers.  The WBT Nextgen Silvers were better than the NextGen coppers.

The results to me were worth upgrading my Bolder Nitro IC's from the Eichman Silver bullets to the NextGen Silvers.

I hope to get them back in a few weeks.

Will let you know how it turned out.

Oh let me correct, I meant by "bullet" the design of the Eichmann's and WBT's  NextGen connectors versus conventional "heavy metal"ones, but yes you are right and also the magazine found that at the present the best sounding connectors are the WBT's NextGen.

Late...

:) Just to add my cents worth,

Experience with the WBT Nexgen is that it is an easier to use (in manufacture) plug than the Eichman, has a central conductor which is a single pressed piece, and doesn't do the 'snapping off in the plug' trick that Eichmann manages on occasions (assuming you managed to insert the damn things in the first place!)

Kevin at DIYCable sells the WBT NextGen connectors at a very good price

http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?products_id=492

They are still expensive!. The pricing is tied to the Euro, so unless the US dollar gets very strong, I wouldn't expect to see any price reductions.

In the article Eduardo talks about, the staff actually preferred the copper NextGen over the Silver for analog cables. They felt the copper had a bit more warmth while the silver was a bit more analytical.

This has more to do with system matching and personal taste than anything else. I have compared most of the Cardas and standard WBT connectors to the Bullet Plug and preffered the Bullets. The WBT NextGen design IS better sounding, to me, than the Silver Bullets.

I have just finished reterminating Marbles' NITRO interconnects with Silver NextGens. I used the Copper NextGen on his phono cable. He should get them back this coming week. Hopefully he will comment on the change.

If you wish to replace your connectors yourself, get in touch with Kevin, if you would like someone to do it for you, send me a PM or E-mail and we can discuss costs.
