I'm looking to experiment with another type of wire. Specifically I need about 10 meters of 18ga solid core occp copper of the enamelled type (like anti-c.), off the reel. If you have some extra... What I want is like this: ww.diyaudiostore.com. I want to hear the dif. between enamelled and Teflon insul.

vh audio has some solid core hookup wire and also a new occ wire .
i am not sure if the occ is solid though .

Thanks thus far. None of these fit the bill yet. How is it that the guy in Australia can get this and I can't find where it comes from? I have the occ 20g, teflon covered wire. Its very nice indeed and inexpensive. Basically I want to test the claim that enamalled wire of this quality would sound better than Teflon.

Try looking in the Kirby Risk website. I know that TPC sells both copper foil shielded and silver foil chielded cable, and seems like it can be bought unshielded as well. What about CAT-5 cable?

Just try some bulk anti-cable,  it's cheap and sounds very good,  my dad replaced his nordost solar wind speaker cable with it,  and the anti-ic's are in place of his old nordost blue heavens

The bulk wire is only 1,25 a foot,   about 3 euro's a meter.

Ummm, there are lots of costs involved in running a business....in addition to whatever margin you want to make on a given product.

Well, I understand there is labor and additional material costs. But the markup seems to be quite high. If you go to Anti-cable's website and click on the FAQ tab, you can see that Paul sells the raw anti-cable for $1.25/ft. But if you order them with terminations, it's $10/ft-pair. So if you order a 20 ft. pair with terminations, that's $200; whereas it only costs $100 for 80 feet of raw cable.

Well... I suppose $100 for installing 4 spades is a reasonable markup.  Maybe I should email Paul and find out since I am kind of interested in trying it out.

I've ordered some bulk wire and IC's from him twice,   shipping has always been very fast...

unless there are overwhelming pratical reasons, or other nameless ones, do yourself a favor and use the wire bare, unterminated (speakers). The only reason against this is, as I have found out, when you torque down the bare ends, they become fragile and wil break off after a few times of doing this. No problem; you just strip the ends and do it fresh. The other consideration is keeping all contacts clean. I ususally strip the ends every 3 months or so anyway. Copper oxidizes quickly. Removing solder joints along with spades/bananas improves the sound in my experience. The ultimate (and impractical) tweak is soldering the wire directly to the board. Robert: the only reason for not going the AntiC. way is that I am stuborn!
and I want to try another version of the OCCP wire. I don't think their copper is. However you slice it, this kind of speaker wire is totally revealing and transparent. I am still waiting for someone to say they don't like it and why.
