Be careful with any motorized cleaner...if even tiny bits of dirt get on the cleaning pads they can
grind into the optical surface and leave scratches. The machine's work great until the pads get soiled...i've used the one that can be purchased at Rat Shack.
The technique I use seems to do well, though its not automatic by any means:
First, rinse the CD with water, whether its a blank or redbook or DVD or whatever. I always use Viva papertowels, they are clothlike, leave no lint whatsoever and have a grip like no other. the wagon wheel technique for drying is used (from center outwards). I'm convinced CD's and DVD's are sealed and waterproof - the ultrasonic cleaner sounds cool!
After the rinsing, i apply Mikrosmooth to the CD and apply with a clean and wet applicator pad (comes with the product). The key with this is to wet the towel before every disc and shake off the excess water before aplying Mikrosmooth...no scratches occur on the surface and it makes the process go a bit faster.
Aside from cleaning discs really well, it removes the sharp edges & pits on the optical surface that leads to scratches. EX: my car cd player always scratches CD's after a while. The CD's don't get scratched if I've cleaned them with MS.
After rubbing in the MS for a minute, i rinse again and wipe dry with a Viva paper towel.
Sonic improvements aside, this technique makes discs more friendly to deal with...they slide all over the place since there's no friction on any of the surfaces and its difficult to scratch them.
this technique was developed to clean up crunchy Netflix DVD's...
