CRL cable products now available at Eastwind Import!

Introducing CRL's audio cables

In our Audio Gear Shop, we have a simple policy: We carry only a select line of products that Hajime Sato, the owner and proprietor of Eastwind Import, likes. He must be intimately familiar with the product in question, he must absolutely love it, and be willing to recommend it to his closest friends. Products offered by Cable Research Lab (CRL) meet this criterion beautifully.

CRL may not be a household name yet, but it is quickly gaining recognition and reputation, receiving the Positive Feedback Online's 2007 Writers' Choice Award, and The Absolute Sound's 2008 Product of the Year Award as well as its 2009 Editor's Choice Award!

  • All CRL cables are handcrafted to order in the US.
  • Most products feature Bocchino connectors, made of pure copper and plated with silver or gold. (No other cable manufacturer uses them as a standard feature. In most products, connections are made by compression, not by soldering.)
  • All CRL cables are burned in for 48 hours on a "cable cooker" before shipping.

As a result of these design features and high build quality, all CRL products offer an outstanding sonic value. Their common characteristics include silent, black background, harmonious neutrality and musicality. Their highly resolving nature allows the faithful and undiminished reproduction of microdynamics and minute spacial and textural cues, but they never sound dry, harsh or analytical. They also excel in microdynamics and solid, realistic imaging.

In short, we absolutely LOVE these cables and recommend them to all audiophiles and serious music lovers. We invite you to visit our website for product details (see below). We also encourage you to call us at 714-334-0759 if you have any questions regarding the CRL products. We will provide specific advice to each customer based on our personal knowledge and experience!

Brand-new releases from Venus Records!

Philadelphia-native composer, arranger and pianist's latest release is a passionate and romantic collection of classic Latin songs. With Austrian bassist (and Latin jazz expert) Hans Glawischnig and Willie Martinez on drums and percussion. Released on superior-sounding HQCD! (Rec. 2008)

Kenny Barron Trio / Minor Blues (HQCD)
Swing Journal Gold Disc! Clearly one of the best American jazz pianists working today, Kenny Barron has finally made a genuine trio album for Venus Records under his own name! With George Mraz and Ben Riley, Barron showcases his bop-based style with flowing lyricism and unique melodic sense in this superb collection of standards. Released on superior-sounding HQCD! (Rec. 2009)

A brand-new release from Atelier Sawano!

Tonu Naissoo / Alone
Our favorite Estonian jazz pianist, Tonu Naissoo's latest release is a beautiful and uplifting collection of solo piano performances. This format allows the listener to fully appreciate his soulfulness, swinging lyricism and prestine sound. Recommended to fans of high-quality piano jazz! (Rec. 2009)

Four brand-new releases from M&I!

Manhattan Five / Lullaby Of Birdland
Lullaby Of Birdland is a tribute to George Shearing, a modern-day reinterpretation of the "Shearing Sound" by the top New York musicians of the 21st century -- pianist Benny Green, vibist Steve Nelson, guitarist Satoshi Inoue, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington. This CD represents the best of what the modern-day straight-ahead jazz scene offers! (Rec. 2008)

Walter Lang Trio / Eurasia
Thanks to his five previous M&I releases, Walter Lang (b. 1961) from Germany is one of the most popular European jazz pianists in Japan. His latest trio recording for M&I takes us on a musical journey through the vast Eurasia continent, playing songs from America, Sweden, Yugoslavia, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece and Japan! (Rec. 2009)

Warren Wolf / Black Wolf
Warren Wolf is the first young jazz vibraphonist with star quality to burst onto the scene since Stefon Harris. For his sophomore release from the Japanese M&I label, the producer surrounded him with an awesome set of talents -- pianist Mulgrew Miller, bassist Rodney Whitaker and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, and the results are explosive! (Rec. 2008)

Cyrus Chestnut Trio / Sunflower - Henry Mancini Songbook
The super-trio of Cyrus Chestnut, George Mraz and Lewis Nash performs smart and sophisticated arrangements of classic Mancini tunes, including "The Pink Panther," "Dreamsville," and "Days of Wind and Roses." Every song is arranged with exquisite taste, and each player contributes with the musicianship of the highest level! (Rec. 2008)

Jazz from Italy - Three new releases!

Gianni Basso & Irio De Paula / Ricado Bossa Nova (HQCD)
Gianni Basso, who sadly passed away on August 17, 2009 at age 78, was a legendary Italian tenor saxophonist. This sunny and sophisticated bossa nova album -- a collaboration between Basso and Brazilian guitarist Irio De Paula -- was recorded in November, 2007. Aided by an all-Italian piano trio, the two principals perform the well-selected bossa tunes with inspired energy and amazing finesse! (Rec. 2007)

Jazzlife Sextet / Tall Stories (HQCD)
From the hot Italian jazz scene comes the Jazzlife Sextet, a smashing and groovy, neo-hard bop unit. They can not only perform classic bebop and hard-bop tunes brilliantly but also compose attractive tunes with memorable melodies. If you like groovy hard-bop jazz, you'll love this CD! (Rec. 2008)

Max Ionata Quartet Featuring Fabrizio Bosso / Inspiration
Born in 1972, Max Ionata is considered as one of the finest, cutting-edge tenor saxophonists in Europe. In his latest leader album, Ionata stands with his most trusted and talented Italian musicians: Luca Mannutza on piano, the brilliant trumpet star Fabrizio Bosso and his regular rhythm section. The fun-filled, energetic program showcases impressive performances by all, reflecting high levels of musicianship and creativity. Outstanding! (Rec. 2009)

Other notable new releases!

Tommy Flanagan & Hank Jones / Live In Marciac 1993 [2CD]
These live performances, recorded in Marciac, France, in 1993, is a major discovery and a blessing for us jazz fans because they are particularly inspired and wonderful, and, as far as we know, they are their last recorded performances together. This well-recorded 2-disc set will make you feel as if you are in the audience! (Rec. 1993)

Lars Jansson Trio / In Search Of Lost Time
Lars Jansson of Sweden is one of the most respected and revered jazz pianists in Japan. His cool but passionate, gentle but strong, sensitive but bold pianism has gained many fans over the past 30 years. His first trio recording in five years, this CD contains his old and new compositions that encompass a wide stylistic range. (Rec. 2009)

Manhattan Jazz Quintet / 25 - Tribute To Art Blakey
Swing Journal Gold Disc![/color][/b] Manhattan Jazz Quintet, an all-star band led by pianist and arranger David Matthews, celebrates its 25th anniversary with this strong tribute album to Art Blakey. Featuring trumpeter Lew Soloff, tenor saxophonist Andy Snitzer, bassist Charnet Moffett and drummer Victor Lewis, the band perform tunes associated with Blakey, all cleverly arranged by Matthews with modern twists! (Rec. 2009)

Genco Ari / Wizart
Jazz reaches far and wide, and inspires musicians all over the world. We are proud to introduce this wonderful debut CD by Genco (pronounced "ganjo") Ari, a superbly talented pianist, composer and arranger. American superstars -- Anthony Jackson, Dave Weckl, Mike Stern and Bob Franceschini -- lend their hands to the "wiz kid" by executing Ari's compositions and arrangements with technical perfection and soulful enthusiasm. Videoarts Music 25th Anniversary Reissue Series!
To celebrate its 25th anniversay, Japan's Videoarts Music label re-released its hit jazz CDs as an attractively priced, limited edition "Hear The Music" series.

Manhattan Jazz Orchestra was created by pianist/arranger David Matthews and an accomplished Japanese producer Shigeyuki Kawashima (both GRAMMY winners) in 1989. Based in New York, it is one of the premier big bands in the US. Matthews is a wildly creative arranger, and boldly and vividly re-imagines well-known jazz standards and other materials. The technically astonishing super-band includes star players like Lew Soloff, Ryan Kisor, Jim Pugh and Chris Hunter.

Super Trombone is a four-trombone group formed by Jim Pugh in New York in 1995. Always supported by top-notch rhythm sections, the trombonists over the years included Dave Bargeron, Ray Anderson, Conrad Herwig and David Taylor. It is amazing to listen to their powerful, precise ensemble work and inspired solos.
Super Trombone / Take Five

Four CDs featuring pianist Renee Rosnes: In my opinion, Renee Rosnes is one of the best pianists working in America today. She has had a very fruitful relationship with Videoarts Music, and her excellent body of work is now re-released in this attractively priced series. One is a Duke Ellington tribute album with another great pianist, Cyrus Chestnut, and three are her trio albums with The Drummonds, with her then-husband Billy Drummond on drums and Ray Drummond on bass.

Preorder your first-ever SHM-SACDs at Eastwind Import!

Latest News

Your chance to preorder the first-ever SHM-SACDs!

Universal Japan is releasing 20 titles of the world's first SHM-SACDs in Japan on June 23, 2010. SHM-SACDs stand for Super High Material Super-Audio CDs. They are single-layer, stereo-only SACDs pressed on special SHM discs utilizing high-quality polycarbonate material originally developed for LCD panels. Please note: They are NOT hybrid SACDs. They do NOT contain any multi-channel tracks. They require a special SACD player, and will NOT play on regular CD players.

This series of limited-edition SHM-SACDs is based on the most recent DSD masters available to Universal Japan (in most cases ranging from 2002 to 2008), and in some cases (titles with "*" after the catalog number), brand-new 2010 DSD masters were  created from analog master tapes.

Based on our experience, this limited-edition series will quickly sell out. Once they are out of print, they are either gone or will be available only at steep premium prices. So, Eastwind Import has decided to offer our valued customers a chance to secure their copies by pre-ordering. Please note that, due to their high prices, Eastwind Import will not stock them, except for a few copies each of the five jazz titles.

The cut-off date for this preorder is Sunday, May 9, US California time. Please send an email to hajime@eastwindimport.com listing the titles you'd like to order, your name and address. In return, we will email you a PayPal invoice via email which you can pay with your credit card.
