Phil, I once discovered a jazz club/restaurant in Studio City, CA (about three miles from my home) that had authentic Buffalo Wings...the real deal. I couldn't believe our good fortune! I would order take-out from them at least once a week. It turned out the owners were from Niagara Falls, NY!

The club closed fifteen years ago, and its closing forced me into making my own wings from then on... :)

Very cool!  Would not have expected that in SoCal...too bad they closed!  In NYC, I'd say Atomic Wings has the closest, but still not quite there...

To those of us who have had authentic wings from Western/Upstate NY, I'm sure this discussion is being viewed similarly to how non-audiophiles hear us talk about power cords and interconnects...

Now you are asking a question that is up my alley.

I have lived in upstate NY my entire life, 5 years in Buffalo.

I think am fairly knowledgeable in this audio thing.  However, as far as wings go, I am a self proclaimed connoisseur.

Phil is right...as good as some wings may be, outside of upstate NY (primarily western NY) they just aren't the same.  And, yes, I have tried NYC's Atomic Wings...they were ok.

I cannot testify from personal experience (having them shipped.)  However, if I were going to count on anyone to do it right, I'd count on La Nova Pizzeria.  http://www.lanova.com/

Keep us posted & enjoy!

Man, I'm hungry!

Blondie's on the Upper West Side are my favorite with Scruffy Duffys on 8th btw 46th and 47th in second.  Buffalo wings are close to my favorite food group.

They're expensive, but they are THE ORIGINAL...

It has been a bit since I have been back to Western NY (not Upstate), but Duff's on Sheridan used to be better than the Anchor Bar IMO.  I wonder if Jimmy's over by Sheridan Golf Course is still open - great dogs there.  Chef's on Seneca for some good Italian. So many great places to eat at, this list could go on and on.

My wing way: wings, deep fried first (need to be crispy, not soggy), drain, put in bowl,  cover with sauce (Frank's as the base, add spices from there for your tastes), mix, serve hot with celery (carrots if you like them) and Marie's Chunky Blue Cheese.

Been to Duff's several times.  I had friends that really liked it there.  I never got into it.  Actually, when it get's brought up in discussion these days, I hear about the fries & gravy.  So, I wonder if the wings were actually the lure.

My favorite spicey fried poultry extermities were at JP Bullfeathers @ 1010 Elmwood Ave-Bflo.

...still hungry!!

I feel the need to be "Truckin, up to Buffalo"

I was definitely a Duff's fan when I was working in Buffalo (didn't bring them up originally in this thread because they don't sell frozen wings).  Apparently, they've franchized it to two more locations (one in Toronto, one in Orchard Park near Buffalo).

As far as Blondie's in NYC, I think they get their wings from Atomic Wings...

I think I've seen them here in Toronto. I'll have to give them a try. But the most awesome thing I've had in New York city is the pretzels with that spicy mustard, from a vendor at Penn Station. Unbelievably good. Tried getting some pretzels here and spicy mustard.....just not the same.

I'd almost visit just to have those pretzels again....

Cheers

Another western NY refugee here.  Agree with the natives ... can't find authentic outside western NY.  The Tyson's at Sam's are the best frozen I've found - meaning edible, but nowhere near original.

One other thing I've missed is beef on 'weck.  Got all excited a couple years ago when a couple from Buffalo opened a bakery here, and lo and behold - kimmelweck rolls !!!!   I was in heaven!
