Stratos Monos Burn in time
« on: 19 Dec 2006, 01:44 am »
I got my system yesterday - stratos monos extreme, candela and loreleis - Klaus told me it would take about 3 months for the system to fully burn in - what are your experiences with the Stratos Burn in time?  Is the change in sound that drastic once burn in is complete?

Thanks

Martin

There is no need for burn in. Don't waste your equipment's life. You may think things are getting better, but it is all in your mind. Placebo effect.

Martin,
I have had my mono extremes for a little over 5 months now the change is a gradual one. They start off sounding lean and over time you just seem to say "wow" that's starting to sound really, really good. And yes I would tend to agree with the 3 month break-in estimate even after that they still seem to  keep evolving to some degree. Although that just might be me as I do travel a fair bit on business and coming home after a week or two on the road the system sounds better than it did before I left.
One tip "leave them on" it does take 2~3 days for them to charge back up again if you turn them off (seems silly I know but it's true).
Good luck and good listening you're going to really enjoy your mono's!

Regards,
Fred

I almost continuously used a dual-well cassette deck, as well as intermittent normal CD and vinyl use, to give my Extreme Monos about 400 hours of continuous playing time for burn-in. I note I leave my Extreme monos on full time, per Klaus' directions.

FYI - Klaus' web site talks about the break-in process for Odyssey solid state gear.

See my post in the Odyssey forum thread regarding burn in time....3 months powered on and 400 hrs playing was about right

three hundred hours minimum. Mine took about three hundred fifty to three seventy-five hours playing 24/7. Or pretty much a solid month of extended playing time. I drove mine during breakin with a B&K tuner preamp feeding into a pair of Polk 800 series speakers out of my HT system. Funny thing about those Polk speakers was that I just never really liked them for music, but they had a comppletely different sound with the monos driving them.
