http://www.reckhorn.com/index.php?ln=en&prod=b1Bass Extension / Subsonic Filter/ Subwoofer CrossoverBass ExtensionAll passive loudspeakers have a natural roll-off in their bass response and adding the B-1 can extend this about ½ an octave. Since not all speakers produce the same bass and since not all rooms or users react to bass in the same way, the B-1 allows the choice of both the frequency and the amount of bass boost. In this mode of operation the HIGH CUT active crossover would be disabled.
For subwoofers the crossover would be enabled and the bass boost would function more like a variable Linkwitz Transform circuit (
www.linkwitzlab.com). This is particularly effective with sealed subwoofers though can also be judiciously applied to bass reflex alignments.
In any event, users should be aware that bass boost can place additional stress and requirements on both speakers and amplifiers and the use of subsonic filtering can be crucial.
Subsonic filterBoth speakers and amplifiers can be overdriven with subsonic (20 Hz and below) signals, whether these come from turntable rumble, unwanted subterranean noise or the extreme LFE content of many movie sound tracks. Using the subsonic filter will help control over excursion of woofers and allow amplifiers to use their power in the desired frequency range.
Subwoofer crossoverThe HIGH CUT function can be activated and will determine which low frequencies are directed to the subwoofer.
