Just a quick thought off the top of my head.
An intermittant get together where members would volunteer to bring speaks, amps, pre amps, and sources. Only 2 of each in total.
No guest speakers, nothing but set up the gear and listen and discuss.
Every set-up would have a set time and move on to the next. (Not regimental of course.) Then we could mix & match as the group wishes.
I think that this would give us a broad introduction to the differences in equipment and what affect they have on the overall outcome of the final presentation.

It was worth all the effort, it was a pleasure to see everyone have so much fun. Just the icing on the cake to a fantastic and fulfilling hobby. It's been a blast.

Hey guys,

I've chatted with a few guys who have amps they would be willing to bring by. So I'm thinking of having an informal ( or formal ) amplifier hoe down. The entire purpose would be to switch amps in and out of a constant base system with the only variable being the power amp.

This would be a great opportunity to hear different amps, and for those (like myself) who are thinking of upgrading in the not to distant future to hear a great selection of amps that could help us make a decision on what sound most appeals to each individual taste.

I would propose that we do a blind demonstration, and have the amps numbered and everyone have a chart where they could score the amps on various categories. ( Dynamics, Soundstage, Imaging, etc...)

The purpose would not be a poll. The purpose would be to aid each individual in finding an amp that would best suit their tastes and needs. We would not be compiling scores.

I was thinking possibly late January. What think??
