I was listening to the new PinkFloyd Pulse concert last night when I sudenly had an idea.  Normally my DVD player is connected in analog to my home cinema receiver but then I thought, maybe I could get better sound if I was sending the digital out of my DVD player into the Paradisea then to my stereo amp.

So I did but the Paradisea did not lock to the signal it was receiving from the DVD player.  I played with the settings in my DVD to go from normal to pcm digital out but same result, the Paradisea did not lock to the signal.  Normally my Paradisea is connected to my Squeezebox for music.

Any of you Paradisea owners using the Paradisea to listen to movies or concerts on DVD?  Is it working for you and if so what do you think I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

I do this with my 2 channel system.

DVD Player PCM -> DAC-60 and it works fine.

Both Dacs use the CS8414 reciever so I can't see why it wouldn't work.

I have never tried it with the Paradisea, and I sold mine so I can't try if for you.

The key is PCM output.  Try selecting the 2 channel audio on the DVD disk (if there is one).

Hey!

Yes, you can. You need to set your DVD player digital out put to PCM or S/PDIF out... and maybe turn off the DTS out also.

Than with the each DVD also check if you could should audio option as 2 CH.

My DAC kit use that same receiver chip as your so it will work. :D

Take care,

Ok thanks guys, I guess I have to go play around with the settings on my DVD player.  I thought I had tried every combination there was in the menus but I must have overlooked something.  I've never used it to output digital before, I always output in analog directly to my amp...

Yes I got it!!!  My problem was the "Pure direct" selector.  I've never used my Denon 2900 in digital before so I had this pure direct to mode 2 so that the display is shutoff, supposedly improving analog sound quality.  However, when selected, it seems like digital output is also shutoff!  So I turned the pure direct off and voila, pure sound coming out the digital connection.

This is a blessing, sound quality is definitely better using the Paradisea then it is using analog out of the 2900.   :thumb:   Now I can enjoy not so bad sound quality from all my concert DVDs, not as nice as when I listen to redbook with my modded RWA Squeezebox as transport but hey at least better then it was, I'm a happy camper.   :D

Thanks.
