I've been experimenting with carbon fiber as a matter of fact, with the intention of using it to do speakers. There are no drawbacks that I know of, or can think of. A couple of speaker companies have employed it in speakers before.

Danny, how do you think the RSL II Line array design will compare to your current and planned OB's? The RSL II also has an hourglass-shaped dispersion pattern, and not a voluminous speaker cabinet.

Do you think a good OB design is better / much different than the 'artificial' method of using drivers on the speaker's rear? (I'm thinking of box coloration and such)

I don't know what a RSL II is.

I don't know what a RSL II is.

It is the announced product from Mark Schifter, Arnie Nudel and Basco (ACT 3).  I think you heard about it a few months back. ;)

Am at the office at the moment, will see if I can find a link... ah, here it is...

Oh that's Arnie's speakers. I really haven't looked at them and don't know anything about them.

Danny,

have you heard the genesis 3? http://www.genesisloudspeakers.com/prd_3.html

I bet the RSLII will be somewhat similar.

I have not heard it in any way that would allow me to really evaluate it.

Would an O-3 be a good match as a center channel flanked by LS9's?

It won't have the same dynamic capability, but the sound of it will match very well.

If you had to pick a center speaker to "best" match with a pair of LS9's, but that had to go below a screen (max speaker height 39") would it be your O3, or something else?

I think and OB 5 or OB 7 center would probably be a killer center compliment to the LS 6 or 9's.

What think, Danny?

Either of those will match the sound of the line sources very well. The OB-5 and OB-7 will give you better power handling and come closer to matching the dynamic capability.

Danny,

Are you still thinking to design a center channel specifically for use with the LS 6/9, or are you leaning towards just recommending the OB-5 or OB-7?

I am still considering a matching array of some kind for a center.

I for one would definitely purchase a center to match the 9's I've got on order!

Trying to mate those beauties with something less than an engineered match would be a shame.
