RM30 CDWG installation questions
« on: 19 Nov 2006, 05:27 pm »
Brian sent me my CDWG for my RM30C (center channel) many moons ago.  I did not have time to examine the package until today.  Also, my home computer bit the dust several weeks ago, and I made the stupid (at least my wife thinks so) mistake of trying to build a quiet computer.  Sadly, either the motherboard or CPU is bad, and I spent yesterday figuring out that the motherboard won't POST and fails when trying to set up the PWM for the CPU.  (Darn it!  It seemed to work OK for a few minutes, until I started installing the OS.)  Consequently, I have not had time to check this board, and will not have a working home computer for at least another two weeks, after NewEgg sends me replacements.  Anyway, if any of this is answered anywhere else, please point me to the correct thread.

Are there any instructions on how this should go together?  There's something marked "masks" between two pieces of cardboard.  Unfortunately, this is melted and permanently stuck to the cardboard.  Is this necessary?  There are also two copper metallic pieces with corresponding screws.  Where do these go?  Finally, there is no black speaker cloth in the slot.  Is it possible to put black speaker cloth on the CDWG in order to cover the slot?  Should I remove the foam, install the cloth over the slot, then reinstall the foam?  This would keep the cloth away from the speaker drivers.  What about just putting cloth on the back of the CDWG?  This would put the cloth directely on the speaker drivers, though.  Finally, what kind of glue should be used for this process?  Thanks for any info!

Bob,

I had the same issues with my CDWG: no grill gloth covering the slot and no physical protection for the drivers.  If you have the original packaging send them back to VMPS and Brian will cover them with cloth at no additional charge.  However, this cover up the gloss black (or wood veneer) finish on the CDWGs.  Frankly I dislike gloss black because it shows every finger print and minor imperfection.

Best,

John

The masks are part of the tweeter dehorning kit.  Follow the instructions on the sticky here.  Pull the masks off the cardboard, they will come loose.

You can cover part or all of the CDWG with cloth.  Attach it with Scotch 77 spray glue.  We can send you cloth if you don't have any.

Thanks, all.  I appreciate the comments, and I'm sorry -- I just now saw the sticky in amongst all the other stickies.  I might just put the CDWG up and see what it looks like (when I have time, that is; which I seem to have none of lately).
