Cool,

We'll have to ask John, what CD has his best stuff on it.

I need something to "Cut my Opera Teeth" on

John sings Mustafa, evil Califf of Algiers, in Rossini's "L'Italiana in Algeria" on Teldec.  There is also a DVD out of his "Cenerentola" (also Rossini), I am unsure of the label.

I often play the first act finale of the "Italian Girl" for customers since John's part is so prominent and so entertaining.

John performs during the season at the Met, and all over the world at summer opera festivals. He is scheduled for Verona next year (as Dr Bartolo) and at the Bastille in Paris in 2008.

Just call him the "primo buffo assoluto"!

From the Met website.....The Barber of Seville premieres on Friday, November 10.

"The November 10 premiere will also be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on Sirius (Channel 85), and the performance will be streamed live on the Met web site at metopera.org. "  :D

Considering the amount of work involved, the 3 minute truncation of the Act 1 finale went by too quickly--literally.  Tempo was accelerated to the point of reaching human limits.  I guess a TV audience is expected to get bored soon.  Still, everyone kept up, John looked good (he was the big guy on the far right), his voice boomed out as usual and appeared to be in good shape.
