Veteran VMPS'er and Metropolitan Opera baritone John del Carlo (along with four other soloists)  will appear tomorrow nite on the Late Nite with David Letterman show performing the Act 1 Finale of Rossini's "Barber of Seville" in a new production.  John will be Dr. Bartolo, Samuel Ramey the Dr Basilio, and Juan Florez, Figaro. 

I can't remember the last time the Met made it onto prime late nite TV.  Check it out.

I normally don't stay up and watch Letterman because I usually wake up early (5:30 a.m.) to make it into work.  However, this will be an exception.  Over the past two years John has provided some very good advice.

Heyyy..... We are doing a truncated 3 min version of the Act 1 finale...in costume, wigs and make-up no less!!  Also with a reduced Met orchestra, 22 players. We are going to look a bit strange to the Letterman fans, but it should be fun!  I actually have a colony living under my wig....you'll see why.

My wife and I saw John's Dr Bartolo at the Met in Nov 2004 and his Don Pasquale in April of this year, again at the world's premiere opera house.  He performs "Barber" 13 times this season in his role as Bartolo, making John the Met's premiere buffo, latest in a line that includes Golden Agers such as Baccaloni and Corena.

Way to go John!!
