Floorstanders.

Hi Bill,

Time to try some floorstanders, or probably anything else you might recommend. I'm pretty satisfied with my system's sound, except for my oft-mentioned problem with channel balance. Right side still. Your products helped and it could just be the CD I enjoy most, since when spinning vinyl, it's not as noticeable, at least it varies from disc to disc.

I don't know enough about listening critically to know what effect the TV is having, but it, and the windows behind the speakers, are probably doing something bad to the sound. My biggest problem is the fan in my computer and the one I have to keep going to deal with the heat, but they're constants and can kind of be tuned out.

On the 70 hz thread, is there any way to make your idea tunable? Not everyone has the skills or equipment to isolate the offending frequency, but if you could make it to be so over the small range mentioned in the thread...

DAWG, look into the low DB power supply fans for your computer now available. Cost is about $100 for the Power supply and fan.

Search the rectangle circle or whatever they call the computer forum here for more details.

Thanks Marbles. I've seen quite a few good links for fans, but I picked the wrong motherboard for them. I'm running a P4T533 and apparently its design doesn't allow room for elaborate cooling between the CPU and the video board. I should probably look at a better engineered case and cooling system. I have to keep one of the side panels off here, which shouldn't be a requirement. I know it's not supposed to work that way, but after frying a power supply, I did a lot of watching fan speeds and system temps and it's cooler with the panel off. I really don't notice it much unless I'm listening at low volumes, which is rarely.

I think Klaus said something about you getting an RG-8 cartridge...is my memory failing or how do you like it if so?

Maybe some women with palm fronds...

Love the RG8 so far.

I would recomend it at the rebuilt price......

The new ones are the price of a decent used car and that seems a bit much to me.

Had a look at your pictures - what superb looking speakers ... with a subwoofer next to each?

Andy, already answered, but those are amps for the rest. I just got my floorstanders and was a little surprised at how. attractive they are. Also very easy to assemble. It's been the windy season here so most of my other 8thnerve treatments are on the couch awaiting reinstallation, but even from my poor listening position the detail increases. I didn't think it could. I can hardly wait for my SL turntable to show up...RG-6 RG-8 and a linn ekos

I'm waiting a few to play my test album "Nazareth" "Close Enough for Rock and Roll", but I'm confident I'm going to enjoy it.

Glad those Floorstanders made it OK to Cyprus: What a trip!

Look forward to seeing some pictures of the new and improved setup if you get a chance. Keep us posted.

Would floorstanders work well in front of a rack or TV in between your speakers (for music)? Those of us that have to compromise positioning with placing the TV in between the speakers.

at least that's where I have two of mine. I don't think the TV was my major problem, but I think I wish I had bought the floorstanders before the roompack. I noticed a lot of improvement from the roompack but the difference after placing the floorstanders was far greater. It took awhile to get used to the new sound there was so much more detail. After listening for a few days I think it was mainly the fact that they cured my balance problem and I was hearing so much more from the left side now.

A prime example of this is a CD by the New Radicals, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too, I think it's track 8. In the song there's a section that's like surround sound with two speakers, except I would always hear the stuff from the rear only on the left side, which is kind of strange considering that the right side of the room was normally the stronger sounding, but today it was all around me.
