Stupid question about active crossovers...
« on: 21 Jun 2003, 01:32 am »
If I actively crossed-over my subwoofers from my monitors, I would then have a volume control for the subs, and one for the monitors right?

So, do people who bi-amp their system this way have to fiddle with each volume control everytime they have to turn their music up/down? Or is there some way to get around this, i.e. is a master volume control used somewhere before, within the active crossover?

The XO trims control the woofer\tweeter balance but the preamp volume controls the global volume as usual, as it is before the XO.

nate is correct - the x-over goes between the preamp & the amps.  best, & ultimately easiest, most flexible way to subwoof, imo...  the only time i futz w/my x-overs' controls, is when i change monitors, or amps.  i pull out my pink noise generator/spectrum analyzer for this purpose.  these are cheap & plentiful, used, on ebay...

Oh geez, I didn't know the pre-amp went BEFORE the crossover.

As usual, thanks for the answer!
