Stereophile Review on B100 SST and 4B SST

Hi All,

Just a heads up.

October issue of Stereophile also has the Bryston B100 SST DAC Integrated amp (page 100) and the new 4B SST C-Series amplifier (page 95) listed under "Category K" --- meaning soon to be reviewed.

The B100 was reviewed in the same issue as the Recommended Components list? I can't believe I missed it.

Hi Bob,

No "K" means it is under review and will be posted in a later issue.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your post. I read it as the 4B was listed as K, but the B100 was actually reviewed.

I'll have to get that issue of Stereophile when it comes out. I'm quite interested in what they think of the 4B SST C-series. They gave its larger counterpart (14B SST) a class A rating.

Yes, and strangely they rated the 7B-SST Class B (the amps that I own). This shows a major flaw in the Stereophile rating system in my mind. Different reviewers == different ratings.

Stereophile ratings are always a bit of a mystery. I also found it odd that they gave a pair of 7B's and B rating and the stereo 14B an A rating when for all practical purposes the amps are almost identical.

This is great news James. Not sure if you remember, but I sent Stereophile an email a while back asking about a review of the new 4B-SST. I sent you this email also, and then sent you their reply. I thought it was odd that they seemed to have overlooked the fact that the best selling "high-end" amp was completely redesigned. They thanked me for the info and said they would look into it.
Now I just have to remember to go out and get that issue, as the current October one is the last of my subscription.

Yes the 4B SST review is part of the B100 review in the April issue of Stereophile.

too bad the BP26 has not been reviewed. I think it's an outstanding preamp. I know it's been reviewed on other magazines with glowing reports. Unfortunately, seems like unless it's in Stereophile getting their stamp of approval, it does not get the respect the product deserves. I think a home run was hit with the BP26MC. What a superb phono stage as well as the line. I think the phono stage is a steal.

I have it combined with a 3B SST (deserves a review there as well) and could not be happier.

Bought them even though I was told I would not like them by other audiophiles. Ends up, I am more than pleased with them.

Looking forward to reading the 100 and the 4B reviews. I would think they should be very good reviews.

Hi Bob,

Thanks - yes the fellow that did the measurements/testing called to congratulate us on the DAC - said he sees many very exotic and pricy units with little to be positive about.
