Gooberdude and any others

Who have an interest in the DIY Room Lens here is a link to my post about the ones I finished for myself, although it might be moved:   http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=40919.msg365311;topicseen#new

Its in the room treatment forum for now, might move to a DIY forum instead.   I should never post around anyone who finds it necessary to let me know their stereo cost 100k, shame on me.

I heard 4 actual Argent Room lenses in a system that uber expensive not too long ago.  i doubt it was $100K, but it is pricey nonetheless.

My guess is that anyone who has heard a properly tuned or treated room might have issues with what the Room lenses do...i'd say their effect is kinda subtle whereas a full-blown Real Traps or GIK acoustics room would be a dramatic change.

the system where I demo'd them had no less than 2 dozen 8th Nerve Response & Adept pillows in it, a very large basement.   So, we never had a chance (or the desire) to remove all them pillows and give the Room Lenses a fair shot.

however, my impressions of what they did is favorable, just not sure if its jaw dropping.

A key thing to remember with Room Treatments is Bass Trapping.  If folks have speakers and subs that produce copious bass, they are going to be partial to the treatments with large Bass Traps...they need them actually.

Or, they can settle with a system like I have from michael green audio that has about 1/5 the stuffing of a single bass trap - yet seems to perform those duties admirably.   aa

1000a, you should PM Nick and ask him to contribute to your Thread...he's been making these for him and his friends a while i think.   Supposedly the placement of the stuffing is absolutely crucial.

Hi Nick

It would be nice to have a future product from your stable, of a premap with TVC dual mono trannies and an active tube buffer, all within the same housing (with separate PS for the tube component). Is this possible?

Best Regards
Dennis

Dennis

Yes we do, here is the pictures of it

Thanks
Mike

The tubes for the recitifer that it can replace are
all 2A and below rating
so you have,
gz34, 5y3,5r4

Hi Nick

Thanks very much for responding! Wow, it looks gorgeous! I am sure it will sound as good as it looks! How much are they?

I am in Singapore! This might be the excuse for me to take a drive up to Malaysia!
 :D

Nick, all you need now is to firm up your logo and to place it somewhere prominent, like on the top plate somewhere in front of the tubes, filling the vast empty space.

I have been very impressed with your products! Wishing you all the very best as you reach out to many with your sperb but affordabale gear!

Best Regards
Dennis

Ps, is that teak wood or nyatoh?

Now that Nicholas has some "C" cores in house, fasten your seatbelt boys and girls, because the good ship Promitheus has just been turbocharged.

Hi Rollo / Nicholas

Is this to mean the future/upgraded versions of the active pre might incorporate "C" core trannies? Having just missed the upgrade boat with the TVC - I must have had one of the very last Ver. 1's  :duh: - I am trying not to be left behind this time! In all this I am assuming that the "C" cores will be an improvement over the stock trannies. Am I correct?

Shamsur

Yes our future active preamp can be incorporate C-core and yes they are quite the improvement in every area.

I have the tvc in c-core format, so will do some testing tomorrow to check out how they work out. I am hoping that the c-cores brings about the same improvement as in our active preamp

Cheers
nicholas

OK Nick or Rollo

watts x 2  on the:

6C33 (SE):      18wx2     yes I got it-check
45/2A3 (SE):   wattsx2?    price of amp?
GM70 (SE):     wattsx2?     price undecided.

thanks,

On the 45/2a3 its USD1000+shipping. I have NOS 45 so will used them here. 2a3 is the shuguang. 45 is 1.5 :duh: 2a3 is 3 watts :duh:
OR 45 or 2a3 PP is USD1300+shipping. 45 pp is 10 watts and 2a3 is 20 watts. Make more sense with normal speakers

The gm70 watts not sure yet but expect atleast 40+.

Yes i have the space heater gm100. Does 250watts solid in single ended. Heats up your room. Its only 2500watts of heat being dump into your room. IN winter superb. Will get you a picture, its super. 2.ft tall only

Are you going to offer any budget SET amps in the future?  A SET el84 maybe?

Thanks

Yeah. The new active pre Tvc looks awesome.

I received my dual mono TVC last week. Currently burning it in. Will do some serious evaluations in the next couple of weeks.

So far it has a wide soundstage (wider than the CJ Premier 14). Depth is also excellent. Tonality is represented by what one has upfront. Deep base is very good. Highs are precise. Mid bass is lacking the weight that I am used to though. Perhaps burning it in will bring some of it back. Otherwise, it will be time to order an active pre with C core.

PS - Nick would you provide some updated pictures of you amplifiers and paste them into the main Promi page?

Thanks so much for catching us up on all our questions, we do appreciate it.
As fate would have it each answer can spur more questions :o

So can you do 2-6C33 PP mono amps and price of such?

Thanks in advance

Nick,

I am pretty sure the C-cores will amaze people. They will have a big full soundstage and refined music especially involved (hard to leave your room if you got hit by an excellent CD or LP records). I am experiencing right now with my custombuilt active preamp built with Double C-core output transformers but using 8608 tubes.  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

once you hear a proper built TVC with massive C or even better double-C core, you'll forget about ANY active preamp or active buffer.

i wrote here how a double-C core TVC prototype smashed an expensive S&B hand made TVC into pieces...... exactly where every but every imperfect TVC fails: in drive, PRaT, timber, fluid, music excitement and passion.

sorry to be a spoiler but i am really religiously against mixing active and passive in this matter.... because this only comes from having an imperfect TVC.

anubisgrau,

Gruessen Ihnen. Sie sind absolute richtig ueber Double C-cores trannies (sorry for my bad German since it had been long times already). But the double C-core is still the second line to the R-core output transformers.

Anubisgrau...you think a TVC with nicer trannies will outperform the current TVC's + active buffer???

those C-core must be somethin...can't wait to see how all this develops!!

OK my decisions on my TVC were almost made on options, I was getting very close to ordering a 2vol single box and the tube DAC all at one time to save a few shipping pennies and then look seriously at buying "A NICK AMP" this fall-------------------------but!!

I'm definitely in a holding pattern for the C-core, really that isn't a problem but a blessing cool

Gooberdude,

Nick did drop over to the room lens post to try and shake up some doubters and I also posted my listening impressions on them over there.
