You would need to have the gain db of the phono preamp. That way we can compute how much is the output will be
I will say its 0.5V or 500mV from the spec mention above. IN some amps just right but in some insensitive amp may be a tad low.
This may be the need for both TVC+Active preamp.
But first what amp are you running

I am using the below amp
Fully Integrated Stereo Amplifier: Input 500mV driving 100 watts, maximum 150 watts output.

You are in luck the input of your power amp is high sensitivity
with the output of your phono preamp you can actually max out the power of your amp
Anyway forgotten to mention if you amp is already an intergrated then you do not have gain issues when you insert the tvc. Because the intergrated with its internal volume control can already have max power.

on my int. amp vol, where should I place it with the TVC

Has anyone had a chance to use Black Hole Pad on their TVC trannies? It brings out bass and expands the soundstage in a way i didn't think was possible by just damping... 3 days into the tweak i'm laughing my head off with every track.

if anyone don't like the bass or vocal performance of the TVC (hard to believe right?

) obtain some BHP and grab a cold one...

my TVC really sounds like a powerful active preamp now, just without the gain.

Yup do consider the reference series they are a step up from the standard series

with the CDP trying will be the best way to decide
With the tvc the higher the gain the better actually for passive but sometimes the higher the gain the more noise from your cdp.
So its like chicken and egg situation

On the volume of the intergrated some use it max out volume or you can max out the tvc and use the intergrated to control volume. Some amps do like their volumes to be max out so max out the tvc instead

I have one of your TVC with older transformers and 16-position stepped attenuator. I would like to know if it's possible to upgrade that 16-position with a 24-position stepped attenuator without replacing the transformers also?

Glad to hear blackhole pad worked for you. Now try on bottom plate. Leave approx 3/4" from edge of plate and trim at corners to bypass corner braces so it sits properly. Let us know the results. I know but I am not telling. Na! Na Na! Na! Na!

Has anybody done direct comparisons?
If so could you place it as a guestimate of a % fiqure
going from:

A>B = 20% better?
or
B>C = 5% better?

Nobody will able to answer you this question correctly because of synergy between components and personal reference. In my system and to my ears, I may prefer A over B. But in your system , you may prefer B over A. So therefore it's an unknown equation

I was wondering if that F100 was for the camera, my favorite Nikon of all time period.
I would change 1 or 2 things but I am not Trump can't get a custom one. I have had F2s, FMs,D70s, D200s still my fav. Like more than F5 or F6.

Anyway next time you get a camera buying itch shoot me an PM. B&H as stated is always safest best people I've delt with in 29 yrs of buying photo stuff

I need more Black Hole Pad. Last night I took delivery of a pair of ASL Wave - 8 monoblocks and went to town. BHP is god's gift to transformers...

I'll try and get more ordered this weekend.... F-100, want to split some more??? i owe you...

I will line the TVC bottom - you don't have to twist my arm! i'll even screw the trannies back into the chassis...

Question for anyone: How hard is it to remove the trannies from the wood bottom? Nick put some damping material that was once a liquid & hardened.. I don't want to apply too much force during the removal, unless it necessary.

The Promitheus TVC + ASL WAVE 8's + Hawthorne SI's = a killer way to spend $1000 in this hobby. incl and addtl $20 for BHP!!

Well we decided to go to Malaysia for vacation. Hot and beautiful. Of course while we are there Nicholas is going to have some company if it is OK with him. Nicholas are you listening. I am bringing back as many components as possible.
Maybe Nicholas can make up a special TVC with double "C" core trannies wired with 7N copper and 7N silver [ double run] internal wiring, yes I said silver, you heard right. [ becoming a believer, maybe ]. Maybe,a tubed DAC, and the SET GM70 monoblock amps with separate balanced power supplies and 70 W/ channel. Oh my! The Pipedreams are going to be very happy when I return.
Hey Nicholas do you play Golf? I hear there are 200 Golf courses in Malaysia. I will be arriving May 24th. and staying for 2 weeks. The flight is 18 Hrs, 7 1/2 Hrs Hrs to Sweden then 11 1/2 Hrs to Malaysia. I am going to need a music fix by then after 18 Hrs of i-pod.
