Does anyone ever get ready for a new piece of gear in special way? I don't mean try out a new color of lipstick or anything but rather cleaning up around the room, your rack, cleaning connections & such?
I've been thinking of a good way to break in the TVC, and rather than leave my cdp on repeat I figure my cable tv box will work the best - it can run 24/7. This weekend, starting on Friday for the Cardinals game, i threw caution to the wind & set-up my cable box in a similar fashion to some of my gear - with footers and a brass weight on top. as far as effective tweaks go - regardless of price - this is REAL high up on my list now.
tv no longer has any high frequency harshness, voices are spot on and the Cards game friday was a blast.
the issue where commercials are much louder than the program, not an issue anymore. And, the picture seems a sharper, richer, truer... the entire tv watching experience has become 'sweeter'.
stuck 3 - 2" maple blocks underneath the box and a small brass weight on top from mapleshade. footer tweaks always take a day for everything to settle in - so the Bears game yesterday was the real test. this $20 tweak is bonafied & now my tv audio seems to be in the same league as my cdp. lots & lots of articulate yet powerful bass in the game yesterday....errrr, that coulda been Erlacher too!
this post isn't about the tweak, but rather something i ran into while thinking about a new piece of gear arriving (and the subsequent break-in period).
this cable box tweak can be done for free, just cut up a 2x4. if you see & hear the diff, spending $ on good wood & brass will make the improvements really pop out. my box is a digital Motorla box with DVR, standard here. just put your hand on your box, if you feel it hum & vibrate its likely to be improved by controlling the vibes with tonewood & brass weight.
