Why do they call it "open baffle", isn't the baffle the front panel? Shouldn't it be call "Enclosureless" or "boxless", I know, it doesn't have the same ring. When I first heard of open baffle speakers, didn't know what it was until I saw photo's."
Way back when I was young (lets not get into when that was), they were called "open-backed" speakers, which I think is more descriptive. They were actually quite common. Most of them did have some form of small to medium sized wing, usually 90 degrees, so they tended to look more like a box, but some had very short sides so would be very similar to many of todays designs.
