Congrats, Curt!!!

It looks like the findings regarding the 0dB gain is very much in line with tkp review.  Still, I'll be traveling 300 miles next weekend to hear this for myself.  ;)

Congratulations on a great review!

I wonder what kind of CDP he was using to get the 'slight grain'?

The author admitted that the grain was from the 'digital' source- does this show that Purist was more revealing than his Ref preamp? ;)

I wish other big brands were also mentioned- would have given more 'ammo' and reference for the purist...

Curt, I hope this is the beginning :)

Cheers,
Kishore

More revealing of grain maybe. He also reviewd a bv audio preamp and said the same thing about grain from digital source but not so bad from analog source.  Too bad the two preamps could not be directly compared. The bv audio preamp was only $1000 more!

Thank you all for your kind comments :D

This is a very positive review and everyone at IRD is quite pleased.

The Purist is a great preamp we hope to hear more customer reviews soon.

JQP: I think the nOrh CD-1 (probably a stock version) CDP.

Curt appears to be mostly right about the digital source. Here is what the review said was used.

"The usual digital source was a nOrh CD-1 with RCA 5751 output tubes. A Pioneer DV-525 with an ART DI/O DAC was used for a few DVD discs."

Changing output tubes is not much of a mod.  I would assume the rest is stock.
