That is good news.

Her last couple of CDs haven't gotten much time in my system.

I still use "Don't Smoke in Bed" as one of my standard demo discs.

Short samples are available. Enough I think to give a feel for the CD.

Found this on CDNow--

Looks like description of a pre-order. Personally, I ordered directly from Holly Cole Web Place (14.95 CD + 4.85 S/H).  My credit card hasn't been charged yet, so perhaps there's some delay????

Got an e-mail from Caravan (I guess they handle the CD orders for Holly Cole's web place) saying that their receipt of CD's was delayed from Tues to Friday.  Don't know if that's the case everywhere or not.

I just picked up "Shade" last night. Gave it a spin in my second system as background with a few people over so not a close listen. But it does sound a little closer to some of her older stuff. Also more instuments in the mix-trumpet, flute, sax & trombone. As soon as I get a chance to do a dedicated listen, I'll post my impressions.

I think people who like "Don't Smoke" will enjoy the new CD.
While "Temptation" remains my favorite Holly CD, I'm glad to see her back into jazz and look forward to her future work.

While I think Holly would be hard pressed to top "Don't Smoke", Shade does lean back to that style again. Although there are a couple of pop flavoured tracks, most are more towards her older jazz stuff. The last track on the disc has some real funky stand up bass which I really enjoy.

mark,
one of my favorite tunes is Mark Murphy's version of "Lazy Afternoon" on "Kerouac, Then & Now." It may have spoiled me for any other versions, even Holly's.
