Quick Question on Force set-up
« on: 5 Jul 2006, 07:22 pm »
I'm REALLY happy w/ their performance BTW. Nice, tight and musical and all the SPL's that I need.

If I am using my Force pair to fill bottom end of the mains AND I'm using the ACI Calibration CD to tune them in, do I leave the mains plugged in -or- do unplugged the mains to get the subs volume at the proper level? The Force are "Y" connected to the FR and FL connections of my Pre-Amp.

Thanks in Advance :)

Do the adjustments with the mains running  :D

Cool! Thanks Mike!

That's what I did. The weird thing is, my mains measure to Mid 20 Hz, but I get the flatest response w/ the sub crossovers set to 110 Hz.  Any ideas why this is??? No biggy, it just seems weird.

Thanks Again :)

You'd THINK that the best results would be with the subs crossed in real low . . .  but this is why it pays to play and measure . . . every room, and every setup is different.

Hi Mike
I have a couple of questions with my Force setup; Would left and right be from the perspective of a listener looking in and at the system or should it be as one looks at the rear of the preamp/amp? What would happen if I tap preamp OUTs BOTH left and right and feed the Force with left AND right? If I choose only one cable to feed the Force, is there any difference whether I feed it with preamp's left or right? Is there any cable recommendation that you would suggest that is good bang for the buck?

I notice that the Force comes with a standard power cord. Would it make much difference if I swop those with Black Sands Silver Ref IVs? Would this be an overkill?

I am enjoying the Force immensely!

Denjo,

Left and right are from the perspective of your listening position. Tapping the left and right channels of your preamp into the subwoofer means your capturing both channels bass, not a bad thing! The Force XL subwoofer has a fixed power cord, not sure about the older Force subs but upgrading power cords even on a sub is not a bad idea. I wish Mike would have done that on the new Force XL. Depending on the distance between the preamp and the sub will determine whether or not you should use a shielded interconnect. In this case leaning to the cautious side is not a bad idea. Sub's will benefit from a good interconnect just like the rest of the components in your system.

If your feeding your subwoofer from a processor using the .LFE output, a single connection to the sub is fine and you usually use the left input on the sub or the line in depending on your subs configuration. If you only have one cable to use and your using a regular preamp, people usually use the left channel output to go to the sub.

Hi Joe
Thanks for your helpful reply! I understand now. Do you have any Sub interconnects to recommend? I only need 6-feet. Thanks in advance.
