Oppo DV-970HD as transport?
« on: 19 Jun 2006, 07:44 pm »
Steve, any thoughts regarding using the new Oppo DV-970HD as a transport versus say, a Pioneer 47Ai Universal player?

What would improve the performance of these players for transport use?

Here's a link to Oppo:

These inexpensive players are often difficult to do the mods to, particularly the Superclock3 and the power supply improvements.  I could probably do the digital output mods.  Besides not having enough room inside, they often have very fragile cabling.  Everything is usually on a single board.  It is possible that it could compete with the Sony, Denon and Pioneer units, but I have would have to look inside.  Also, it may not be worth the $1000-1300 in mods to a player this cheap.  The drive mechanism may not last.

What mods are most beneficial from a transport standpoint?

Based on your earlier comment, the Pioneer remains a better choice (especially if DVD-A is important)?

SuperTurboclock, Power mods and digital output mods.

The Pioneer would be a better choice, or a Denon 2900/5900.
